HAd a mirrror delivered today to put over my mantlepiece. Ordered it in store from a photo in the catalogue (but didn't measure). It is the size of my entire living room wall!!! Bastards won't take it back unless I pay £100. I only want to swap it for one which is not the size of a small county. What should I do?

Oooh it sounds lovely. Can you put it in your bedroom or bathroom or something?

fishie · 31/05/2007 11:34

bedroom ceiling?

Pay £100 for what?

Surely they will take it back? Can you take it directly to a store?

My Dad works in M&S and he says their returns policy is really good(for the customer)

tee hee at bedroom ceiling, better not suggest that to dh
They charge £100 before they will give me a refund or exchange and reckon if I take it into store the store will just contact the delivery dept who will tell them to charge me. Weird eh? Have written a snotty letter as it doesn't make any sense to me.

Its because its a furniture item, its meant to put you off bringing furniture back because its a big hasslefor them to pick it up from you again, you have 7 or 14 days (can't remember) after you order it to change your mind and after that you have to pay to return it. You can't return furniture items to stores, apart from for some strange reason garden furniture. And for everything else they're very lenient. I work there btw.

ooh thank you nodnod, do you think I've got no chance in persuading them to take it back then? My other thought was trying to ebay it, but then we're bound to lose money that way too. Just so cross with myself for not measuring, seems such a bloody obvious mistake to make. Was really excited about having lovely mirror over fireplace too

Maybe phone your nearest store (the phone number will be on the website) and ask them, its always worth a try, it really depends on what size it is, but you'd definitely need to drive it back if they let you. If you can figure out in what kind of way it could possibly be their fault that could help too

dh wants to put it on the dining room wall but it is literally the entire wall and I reckon the wall might not be strong enough to hold it. Am trying to persaude him to send it back and lose the cash if M and S won't give us a full refund. Just so annoyed with myself for being such a div
