I've had a break of a few weeks, and come back to many threads about prepping, stockpiling food and batterie so, and mass panic about the end of civilisation as we know it.

Dafuq!?

I'm suspicious that the govt are encouraging stockpiling. Surely this is a simple boost to the economy to increase interest rates?

The MRHA bid was speaking in a personal capacity.

And the report spdid not add that there are already well established ways of transporting medicines that need to be at a certain temperature and that this can readily be done from major manufacturers eg those in the US. I think he had been asked leading questions that have been written up in ways that would alarm.

Because yes, he has confirmed that a contingency plan to buy from outside EU is necessary. But has not said that such a contingency plan would be particularly difficult, because the logistics of drugs transport are well honed and in use all the time. It might however be more expensive. And there might be waste, if secondary supply has to be secured before it is known whether existing suppliers can continue.

The current suppliers will want to find a way to keep selling to us. NHS is a large and valuable customer, not least because it has yet to really leverage its buying power.

Kitten could you give an idea of where he speaks about food security please? That document is long...

AjasLipstick · 31/07/2018 13:05

Booty or it's because they know there will be shortages and don't need to see people on social media crying that they've got no food.

q2406 AJ

It says "Q2406 Chair: I am trying to explore the state of the Government’s preparedness for the no deal outcome. You will never hear me saying, “No deal is better than a bad deal,” but plenty of Government Ministers have made that argument. If you genuinely think that no deal is better than a bad deal, presumably preparations are being made. Is the Government considering stockpiling food?
Dominic Raab: Again, we will set this out in the technical notices, but it would be wrong to describe it as the Government doing the stockpiling. Of course, the idea that we only get food imports into this country from one continent is not appropriate, but we will look at this issue in the round and make sure that there is adequate food supply as well as all these other things. Again, I am not going to give more detail until I can set it out in a responsible and full fashion."

It's not the most reassuring statement. If the government are not doing the stockpiling but he doesn't deny that there is stockpiling then is the stockpiling being contracted out?

Seasawride · 31/07/2018 15:25

I moved on because I was told that my piss taking was boring!

You can’t hsve your cake and eat it.

Omg that reminds me stockpile cake

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 31/07/2018 15:28

ration packs are very nice, i lived on them when i was living in a van for 8 months.
You get weird tasting cake and very hard crackers in them which last for ever.

AjasLipstick · 31/07/2018 22:56

Kitten thank you; I think that they may be stockpiling via the retail or import companies. Working with them to set supplies aside. Supplies which will then be eked out.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/08/2018 08:16

It sounds like that's a possibility Ajas. I wonder how much storage there is and what they are aiming for. I can't imagine commercial companies wanting to hold onto large amounts of stock out of good will, it sounds very costly.

Buteo · 01/08/2018 13:48

Major retailers and distributors hold between 1 and 4 weeks stock. The issue is fresh foods, which may only have around 24hrs supply.

Great idea for the government to shift the problem to retailers. Where are they going to magic up storage?

Ifailed · 01/08/2018 19:40

They wont - the idea is to shift the storage problem to customers, it will then be their fault if they don't have enough.

ReginaBlitzkreig · 01/08/2018 20:01

Well, it isn't all scaremongering. The problem is stasis in government, as there is no Parliamentary majority for any Brexit option, and the main parties are neglecting everything except managing internal rifts.

Proper planning has been going on by civil servants in local and national government for ages, but until very recently it was impossible to get politicians to sign off on anything. There is still an awful lot to decide and negotiate and not much time to do it in.

There will be import delays, but the system won't collapse. It is the sheer complexity of the thing that concerns people.
