On the train (long journey) I am actually pretty tipsy so the fact they are annoying me means they must be really annoying ! Group of lads about 20-25 veryyyyyyyy loud and I mean the kind of voice that gives you a headache would I be unreasonable to ask them to sssshhhh ??

I don’t mind abit of noise but it’s the kind where you can’t even think

Yes

ProudThrilledHappy · 28/07/2018 20:02

You can try, but may regret it.

AChickenCalledKorma · 28/07/2018 20:04

Until a few months ago I would have said go for it. But the mouthful I got from the lads I asked politely to keep it down made the rest of the journey even worse.

Maelstrop · 28/07/2018 20:04

Not unless you’re in the quiet coach.

ShinyMe · 28/07/2018 20:07

Groups of blokes like that aren't likely to apologise and shut up. They'll most likely get aggressive and shouty and even more unpleasant. If you can't bear it, go and find a member of train staff and tell them. And scout out other carriages to move to.

longwayoff · 28/07/2018 20:18

Change carriage. Dont get involved in a drunken shouting match you may come off worst.

Firsttimemum892 · 28/07/2018 20:32

I don’t think they are the type of guys to get nasty all pretty posh student types I wouldn’t feel scared at all , but yeah I think I will move as it will be akward more than anything ... why do some males speak sooooo loudly ??

Correction they might get nasty , posh people can get nasty I mean I wouldn’t be threatened

Annoying but not much you can do about it. Can't you move seats? Put headphones in?

funinthesun18 · 28/07/2018 20:45

A small child makes some noise and it’s more than acceptable to tell them to shut up or have a go at the parents about the noise.

Adults make noise which is probably 10 times louder and they’re very aware of what they’re doing, and it’s unacceptable to tell them to shut up.

Why can’t people use some earphones when there is a small child making noise??

RainbowBriteRules · 28/07/2018 20:48

funinthesun yes, complete double standards. To answer your question OP I think a bit of noise is to be expected on a train, especially on a Saturday night.

FASH84 · 28/07/2018 21:09

It's Saturday night, unless you're in the quiet carriage leave it or move. Is the tipsyness making your head sensitive..... ?

FASH84 · 28/07/2018 21:10

Also if I told a noisy toddler's parent to quiet them down on a train, is be lambasted on here

ConfusedWife1234 · 28/07/2018 21:15

To my mind it would be reasonable to ask them to be quiet in a nice way but it would be unreasonable to tell them to shut up or tell them they have annoying voices. What’s an annoying voice like anyway?

ThinkingCat · 28/07/2018 21:18

I'd probably either put up with it or go and sit in a quieter carriage.

ConfusedWife1234 · 28/07/2018 21:22

I am a rural girl btw and I remember when I was younger and went to the city people often told me I was talking real loud... and I did not even notice... maybe they do not even notice for that reason or another.

DH is Short of hearing and sometimes talks really, really loud. No, I do not think they are all short of hearing but maybe they do not even notice they are talking really loud and annoying people.

Firsttimemum892 · 28/07/2018 22:42

No I don’t think it’s anything to do with where they were from , they were pissed and shouting /singing etc pretty rude comments too anyway I moved carriage and survived the journey Grin it just annoys me how inconsiderate people are of others around them
