To not replace all school uniform

Everyone I know buys everything new for going back after the summer. Am I the only one that thinks this is a massive waste of money if it's not needed?

I just replaced ds shoes and polo shirts at the easter holidays as the shoes had seen better days and the shirts were evading my stain removing abilities. I've tried on his jumpers and they still fit and aren't washed out.

So new I've bought socks and trousers as they were threadbare at the knees where he has fell etc and socks going the same way. He asked for a new more grown up school bag.

Anyone else the same as me and reuses what they can?

I buy as and when needed. I need a fair bit this time around as my eldest needs a full set, the middle is going to a new school, and the youngest seems to eat polo shirts.

Thankfully it’s not too expensive a job, so will do one child a week through August and hope for the best. Shoes will be the hardest thing, as my eldest wears docs and her last pair have just given up the ghost after 2.5 years solid wear.

We had to buy DS new shoes at Easter so hoping they'll fit for the first few months back. Certainly not buying new for the sake of it. I'm also hoping his jumpers will do for a while too. Although I may buy bigger to put aside for when needed. Will need new trousers, tshirts, socks, plimsolls and pe shorts. That all costs enough.

In our case it's dresses up as doing us a favour as being online it's cheaper etc

High street shirts are allowed but then it links to m&s which are more expensive than supermarkets.

Plus all the shops do the sales in like june/July

I don't want to buy uniform this early I like to get it mid August so I don't have to buy what fits now and worry it won't in a few weeks.

I also don't why to have to have dd to have to attempt to try stuff on in a busy crowded hall with no privacy 2 months befire she's even due to start.

Why can't we have sales and the abikity to buy the uniform at a time that suits us so we don't have to send then in in clothes too big cos we took a chance and sized up or risk discovering the might befire that it no longer fits and you are fucked.

It's a fucking con. Designed to probably make parents buy double to ensure one lot fits and of course you don't find out it doenst fit until it's too late to return so you can't get refunded either .

I miss next already. Click. And collect next day for free . Try on In store return and get a refund at the desk and they even help you order the replacement.

Yes, longestlurkerever

The government deplores single supplier uniforms, had policies stating they should not be used, occasionally makes a public statement about it. But has done sod all to introduce any form of sanction against a school which introduces that. Neither did New Labour - and I think it is to do with making it possible for their neely introduced academies to ape private schools (wasn't the lingo then 'independent in the public sector'?)

Where of course that all falls down is that the really posh public schools all have very thriving second-hand uniform sales. And one DC are only kitted out new when there's no alternative. And their DDads (and possibly DGDads) are probably still wearing the same dinner jackets and change coats they had as sixth formers.

I googled and there's a rumour that sainsbury's will have its 25% off everything sale on 14 Aug.

Smartness at school makes zero difference. Look at all the people with stellar careers who went through the school system never wearing uniforms at all.

Exactly. Again - how do people imagine that other countries function? Does nobody have a great job in countries that have no school uniform? Do French police officers go ""Help - I don't know how to put my uniform on because I never wore one at school! Dammit I wish I'd gone to school in the UK!"? Grin Knowing how to dress appropriately for different jobs or occasions is not solely to be learnt from wearing a school uniform.

I'll be getting new shoes for my 2, they were both hunting for. Ew shoes a month before the end of term (worn soles), but I wouldn't give in.
When ds comes out of his shorts that he's worn since April and puts on his trousers I might need to panic buy some longer ones. But they both grow so much over the summer holidays in my experience, so I do not shop early.

Haven't bought anything new for going into year 10 dd1. I replace when worn out or outgrown. Dd2 going into year 7 I've bought some new and some hand me downs as spares. Our uniform shop lets you exchange outgrown stuff til September. Some PE items they've changed for year 7s, ie. Different pe top and skort must now be long length not standard length. I'm hoping the hand me down stuff will be accepted as spares though
