To need help with newborn poo!

Hi all,
Have a 3 year old already and a 2 week old DD.

She is fully formula fed and she is pooing 2-3 times a day, and consistency seems perfect like peanut butter. However she seems to scream inconsolably while she is pooing and just before. Until she’s finished.

I was wondering if she was constipated but poo is soft and yellow ish and so I don’t think so. Would there be a reason she would be crying during the process? I’m a bit baffled, as my son never did this.

Any thoughts would be helpful!

Thank you !!

Because the rectum is a muscle and you have to use it to produce poo otherwise it would be dropping out as we walked round Sainsbury's!

Maybe she has a strong instinct not to soil herself? As it is so obvious when she is about to poo, you could try taking the nappy off and holding her over the toilet to gom

My DD now (9) was exactly the same as what your are describing, she was also formula feed too.
Had to change the formula milk from SMA to APTAMIL easy digest, even though she was not constipated and it was HV who advised me to do so.
She stopped crying after I changed, but now at (9) she is going through tests for celiac disease.

Sorry to worry you 💐 this may not be the case with your DD but just telling you my experience.

Good luck OP 💐

Sorry OP, no advice but this is the funniest thing I've seen all day 😂

When I was 9 (a long time ago!) a baby sister arrived. Every time she was fed my Mum used to hold her over the potty (on her lap) and often caught a poo. She was dry before she was one. It was all the rage then - but as there were no disposable nappies and few washing machines (too expensive), I can sympathise with the motivation!

My son had this but his poos were green. He was allergic to milk.

I think ItsAllGoingToBeFine thought you meant your 3 year old... hopefully Grin

Nope, I was serious. Not soiling yourself / your nest is a fairly strong animal instinct. And getting your baby to shit in the toilet saves a lot of cleaning up, and a lot of nappy washing. Sadly wees are much harder to catch.

Have you never noticed how many babies wait until the nappy is off before they go...

dancinfeet · 28/07/2018 21:35

to be fair, I remember my mum doing this with my nieces and nephews when they were tiny babies - holding them over a potty or couple of sheets of newspaper, and more often than not they would go. This must have been in the early 80s. I never tried it with my two though, seemed like a faff!
