To think we should be able to fit a weeks work of camping equipment in a normal sized car

There are three of us, me DH and DD who is 1. We are going camping and trying to get everything into our VW Golf is a nightmare, I’m not happy having stuff on the parcel shelf in case it flies forward and hits DD in her car seat but DH insists on taking the worlds largest camping chair, which takes up about a quarter of the boot space and he also has to take a duvet and pillow because apparently he “can’t” sleep in a sleeping bag. I feel like maybe we should trade in the Golf for an articulated lorry and then we might just about be able to fit all our crap in Confused

We'd struggle into fit everything in a Golf. We have a Touran, which apparently is just like a bigger Golf? (Clueless about cars). That's usually packed to the roof for a week's trip! Bringing a duvet camping is BU, though, unless you're cheating and staying in a yurt.

Put children in car (with their snacks and entertainments)

Pack around children (ignore protests)

Tell husband he is not bringing 25 tennis rackets as a) there is no where to play and b) every time previously they didn’t see the light of day for the whole holiday.Angry

Seriously, we have inflatable roof bars and a roof bag, just takes the pressure off internal space.

@MothertotheLordsofmisrule I’ve never heard of inflatable roof bars, that’s genius! I’m heading over to Amazon now!

It’s not too hard. We just strap everything on the back. In fact DH went ahead yesterday and took the tent, air bed, double sleeping bag and blanket with him. I’m meeting him later and bringing the pillows etc.

@PinkRollsRoyce it really is the ugliest thing but you can't beat it for space. We have twins and a dog and drive to France twice a year. I'm just about ok with it now!

You need one of these beauties!
