Just that really, any avid readers! I'm off on holiday and I'd love some ideas of what to read when I'm away. What have you really enjoyed this year?

Books I've read and enjoyed recently
Never let me go Kazuo ishiguro
The Rosie project
Before we met Lucie Whitehouse
We need to talk about Kevin

I like reading Sarah waters and Sophie Hannah

Anyone got any ideas for something new? Thanks!

The Clock Dance by Ann Tyler.
Or start reading The Cazalet Chronicles by Elizabeth Jane Howard. Wonderful and will keep you going until Christmas.

I struggle to get into Kate Atkinson books tbh.

I've downloaded the Oliphant one, he said she said, a liane Moriarty one, the keeper of lost things.

Thank you, I'll try lots of these out, it's great to get some new ideas.

I recently read and thoroughly enjoyed Where The Missing Go by Emma Rowley. Slow burn mystery/thriller. Also One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus. Latter is US based, which is not usually my favourite but I loved it.

I’d agree with above suggestions, lots of those I’ve read and loved.

Atlastatlastatlast · 27/07/2018 22:23

I see someone else has also recommended the Cazalet Chronicles.
Can I also second Behind The Scenes At The Museum by Kate Atkinson.

IamAporcupine · 27/07/2018 22:28

If you liked Ishiguro, I second The remains of the day.

Last holiday I read My name is Lucy Barton and really enjoyed it

DerelictWreck · 27/07/2018 22:33

Since you like light-hearted, try The Break by Marian Keyes

PixieN · 27/07/2018 22:40

‘Surprise Me’ by Sophie Kinsella. Also loved ‘Eleanor Oliphant.’

I have read lots that other posters have recommended, but I’m suggesting any book by Lori Lanson.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 27/07/2018 23:00

Lansens!

Beachhutgirl · 27/07/2018 23:16

I would second many of these recommendations, especially Eleanor Oliphant and the Keeper of Lost Things.

My favourite read of this year so far is Five Rivers met on a Wooded Plain by Barney Norris, really well written and thought provoking

Another vote for Remains of the Day (and although on the surface they are very different, you will notice a lot of parallels between it and Never Let Me Go).

I loved The Stranger's Child by Alan Hollinghurst. His latest, The Sparsholt Affair, is good too.

MrsEricBana · 27/07/2018 23:29

Oh yes, really loved Eleanor Oliphant. On holiday I read Heartburn by Nora Ephron (written in the 80s but just reissued) and really loved it.

2up2manydown · 27/07/2018 23:38

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. Loved it.

PixieN · 28/07/2018 08:38

Just thought - If you enjoyed ‘The Rosie Project,’ there’s a sequel, ‘The Rosie Effect.’

I love this thread. Making a good list from this thread.

OwlinaTree · 29/07/2018 11:51

Yes I've got loads of ideas now! Keep them coming Smile
