I'm not against cyclists, but am IBU to expect those who cycle to work to get changed in the loos rather than in front of everyone else in the staff room?

If they're stripping naked, YANBU.

Not naked Grin Just underwear. Couple of women without bra, on though. Guys mostly, down to boxers. Just think they should change elsewhere

Just me, then!

LinoleumBlownapart · 27/07/2018 01:28

That's a bit odd!

SleepWarrior · 27/07/2018 01:29

I think it's pretty off to use the staffroom to strip down to underwear, it must make it weird for everyone else using it for normal purposes. Or are you the only non cyclist and therefore the only one bothered?

What are the toilet facilities like? If it's one toilet in a tiny room it makes it very difficult to cycle to work and have somewhere to change (not that that means get your clothes off anywhere you fancy either).

LinoleumBlownapart · 27/07/2018 01:30

Maybe as it's not just one person then others think they should change there as well. I can really see that happening, people feeling too shy to be the only one that goes elsewhere to change, so everyone stripping off. How many people do it?

WarPigeon · 27/07/2018 01:30

No your not, but the slow moving gits should be getting changed IN the road.

HolyPieter · 27/07/2018 01:31

Why the fuck would you get your tits out in the office?

Chrissy93 · 27/07/2018 01:36

How many people do it?
About a dozen. It just seems the norm

That's basically it. One toilet for about 20 staff on a shift

OP posts:
BlueBug45 · 27/07/2018 03:37

If there is only one toilet then they would be selfish to change in it, as changing takes longer than doing a pee.

OP do you have an issue with semi-nude bodies? If they are wearing underwear that covers their genitals then I don't see what the issue apart from your own hang ups about bodies.

Clevs · 27/07/2018 03:49

Are they not showering after cycling in? I bet it smells lovely there Hmm

FindoGask · 27/07/2018 04:40

I don't shower after cycling to work, Clevs, and I smell just fine. Depends on how long and hilly your commute is.

BroomstickOfLove · 27/07/2018 04:52

If there's just the one toilet, and a dozen people all wamting to get changed, then the staff room does sound like the most reasonable option.

Pywife2 · 27/07/2018 05:09

I used to work in a health clinic where a couple of blokes cycled a long distance to work. They were very ostentatiously virtuous and gave me lectures about how I should do it. Even though I explained repeatedly that I had to drop and collect my child from the child minders and also just didn't have time (and I hate cycling).
Anyway, there were no showers at the clinic and these guys worked with the public all day. They really did smell, although they seemed not to notice.
Even if only one person is uncomfortable with others stripping off in the staff room, there's still a problem. Maybe the employer could provide better facilities? A shower?

Kittykatmacbill · 27/07/2018 06:44

In scotland you can apply for grants to improve cycling facilities in work places (from cycling scotland). Maybe your employer could look at applying for one of those if you are in scotland.

Ifailed · 27/07/2018 07:02

if there are 12 cyclists and one toilet, it's going to take about an hour for them all to queue up and use it to change, and presumably the same at the end of the day. It sounds like they have come up with a practical solution.

SharronNeedles · 27/07/2018 07:13

We have one at work who hangs his sweaty cycle top on the radiator to dry. Not even a radiator by him!

Chrissy93 · 27/07/2018 09:04

I don't think they come far. We don't have showers anyway
Even if only one person is uncomfortable with others stripping off in the staff room,
I don't think I'm uncomfortable with it, just more surprised people are willing to do it. A couple of female staff are Hmm when the blokes strip, though

I suppose if they all queued up to use the one toilet to change, then most of them could end up being late to start work and would lead to other staff moaning about that...

ChelleDawg2020 · 27/07/2018 10:50

The toilet is not a changing room. If you are really that concerned about people briefly being in their underwear in the staff room then ask your employer to invest in changing facilities, or put up a curtain or something.

DGRossetti · 27/07/2018 11:22

As long as I can remember, there's been a push to encourage cycling to work (let's put it this way, it goes back before DS was born in 1996).

Also, as long as I can remember, there's not been a pennies incentive via tax, or rates for employers to provide showers or secure cycle storage facilities.

BarbaraofSevillle · 27/07/2018 11:31

Yet again, a cyclist's place is in the wrong.

You're offended by them getting changed in the staff room, but if they used the toilet, you'd moan about them hogging the toilets, and also not working while they queued up to get changed in the toilets.

Anquin · 27/07/2018 11:50

Not really a cycling thread, is it?
When I was in a sports club many years ago (not saying which sport as it’s a less common one and could be very outing), the place where we trained had no changing facilities, so the girls would order the boys to look away while they changed and vice versa.
I think you have a strange reaction to what is clearly a necessity - and if undercrackers are left on, I can’t see the problem!
