I'm home alone again tonight for the second time in over 20 years. 1st time was 2 days ago and there's thunder rumbling in the distance but getting closer.
I usually love a good thunderstorm but I'm genuinely panicking a bit.
Our power quite often gets knocked out durIng storms.
I can't find the good torches. I think dh took them with him for the job he's doing. I don't want to light candles because of fire hazard. I've got MS so coordination isn't great.
I'm imagining sitting in the dimly lit room with no internet scaring myself to death at every noise I hear and scared to move because my vision is terrible in dimly lit places. I'm scared I'll fall.
Someone please tell me to get a grip and reassure me I'll be fine.

You can also get battery powered string lights.
Id forgotten we'd put some up in our hall oneXmas and never took them down.
Led ones give off quite a strong light.

Phone on charge - use as torch.
Call neighbours to help you ie lend you torch.
Tomorrow get LED lanterns (camping style) cheap, safe and effective.
Strings of lights (battery) mounted on stair bannisters/loos/bedhead etc and big torches set up around the house with sign on telling husband no to move them 😀

Totally stunned at lack of sensitivity of some posters telling someone with MS, alone and fearful to stop over reacting. Seriously ~ difficulty with mobility and coordination combined with darkness in surroundings ~ not a simple challenge at all! Useful tips was all that was needed.

Power on here, but major thunder and lightening. I have spent the last hour soothing the terrified cat. DP has come in from football/pub absolutely drenched.

Hope you’re okay, OP.

ManyCrisps · 27/07/2018 02:35

@Prestonsflowers if you read the op properly the op does ask that people tell her to get a grip whilst that isn’t what I said it has the same meaning.

Orchidflower1 · 27/07/2018 06:15

HOpe you had a decent night op.

LakieLady · 27/07/2018 06:44

Straying off topic, but it's so hot here I'd love a thunderstorm.

Hope you're ok now, OP. I bet you'll make sure you know where every single torch is after last night!

Prestonsflowers · 27/07/2018 08:02

@ManyCrisps
Yes, I did read the Op
And yes she did say that

Happyhippy45 · 27/07/2018 15:49

Bollocks. Dh and DS having to stay away for another night.....and yup, more storms forecast.
At least I'll be better prepared and less panicky tonight, though I've not had time to get better lighting. I'll get my nest prepared this afternoon. Thanks for the support last night, I had a good sleep. Even the unhelpful comments did a good job of distracting me Grin

Glad you managed ok Op. Try and watch something on tv that your menfolk can’t stand - that way you make the most of it!

Happyhippy45 · 27/07/2018 16:39

Thanks orchid
I've been watching all the stuff I got dh to record that I'd forgotten about and I know he's not bothered about watching Bear Grylls or some Simon Reeve documentary.....it's nice to have a bit of space and not have to compromise or consider anyone else's needs!

Hi Happy
Glad all was well last night and you're getting ready for tonight.

Speaking of Bear Grylls, did you see his adventure recently with Roger Federer? I thought it was brilliant, I think it was the Discovery channel.
I love Fed's little boy sense of fun, ideal for Chief Scout Bear 😀

The rain, such as it was, has passed here, so I hope the risk of power cuts in your area has gone down. Actually, thank you for posting, I've now picked up loads of useful tips from other MNers about emergency lighting ✅👍🏻😀
