I'm looking for any experience others have had on this medication.
I'm about to go to an appointment where I have to decide if I'm going to start the treatment. I'm 40 and have a life long severe skin condition which nothing else has helped. This is my last resort but the idea of weekly blood tests, kidney problems, blood pressure issues and mainly how to practically avoid anyone who is ill when I have school age children and work in an office, are making me think twice.
Your real experiences would help me to decide and would be much appreciated.

For me it did take a month or so to see any benefits!

I've recently been changed from azathioprine to 6-mp. Azathioprine made me bone tired, unable to do anything but sit on the sofa I went from exercising 6 times a week to nothing just so tired, also made me nauseas, I felt terrible. The 6-mp is better, sickness is a lot less but I'm still moderately tired, I'm hoping this will get better the longer I'm on it.

I was on methotrexate for years with RA. Came off it to get pregnant almost 3 years ago and have just restarted now my baby is 5 months. I never had any issues and have no concerns going forward. As with everything it’s risk vs benefit so you have to weigh it up yourself and decide if the benefits outweigh any potential risks/side affects

I'm on cosentyx and mtx. It has and is affecting my liver, the mtx that is. But Christ without these drug I wouldn't be able to walk at all.

SluttyButty · 27/07/2018 17:55

I should've said I'm on them for psoriatic arthritis.

@Queenie how did you get cosentyx for RA? I didn't think it was licencesed for it?

@queenofthemountains keep an eye on the fatigue. When I first went on mercaptopurines I was on steroids and so NEVER tired. it was only after I came off the steroids that the tiredness showed, and I discovered by mistake (coughnoncompliancecough) that it was azathioprine. Like you I trialled 6mp, and it was a bit better but still debilitating.

I am on a biologic for R.A. As others have said the benefits massively outweigh the risks. I was really nervous at first but again in line with what other People say here.....if you get a bit poorly go straight to the doctor don't hang around and just do.yoir best to avoid infection with hand washing and avoiding sick people! I carry hand sanitizer a lot.....
