To ask if employers are helping out in this heatwave

We have an old office, two tiny little fans, one small fan light window and one not big window can be opened! It's boiling!

It's 34 degrees in here, for security reasons can't open doors!

Boss decided to go home after an early appointment.

Just emailed and said it's unbearable can you consider more fans?

His answer was hottest day of the year means hottest day in the office Smile

Sorry posted too soon!

It'll break soon no point in more fans!

Not a "I know it's a nightmare there because all other widows stuck etc, see if you can get a couple more fans" go get some money out of petty cash and buy cold drink nothing!

Sending a snarky message and smiley face has not aided my mood!

Anyone's employer being a bit kinder?

Our employer tries!

We're on the top floor of an old barn. It's currently 36 in here.

We have lots of fans and our bosses have been stocking the fridge and freezer with ice lollies and cold water / cans of drink.

We have been told we can go at 3pm today if we want and take laptops home. He did try an AC unit last year but we couldn't get the exhaust pipe out anywhere (sky lights only) so it was switched off in the end!

Poor thing, what a rotten attitude for your boss to have. Not even to acknowledge the misery of working in such heat,. I'm one of the lucky ones... only me and the senior sister on shift today, and my car has no a/c, so she is taking majority of the patient from me and certainly going to see those further away, letting me stay nearer to the surgery and get on with the paperwork in the office with the one, very much appreciated fan!

My colleagues on the wards are miserable though, as they had been told by the ward managers they could wear scrubs, much lighter than the awful thick tunic uniforms, then everyone got pulled up by the senior matron and made to change back. Angry

DPs boss made sure they all had shorts but not much more he could do...removal people.

Purple999Red · 26/07/2018 14:46

Awww too bad! Maybe you can tell him during the company meeting about this concern?

jobjobjob · 26/07/2018 14:51

@BornInALighthouse now that's hard work indeed!

@Purple999Red not sure if you're saying IABU or not?

I appreciate not a lot he can do, but a little empathy does go a long way!

I went home sick from such a place once

the next day, the boss was OTT asking "are you feeling better - we felt SO sorry for you" -

and I said "you know it's strange....I started to feel much better after I got home". And looked him full in the face, because, yannow, if he wanted to report me to HR he'd have to say "I don't believe she felt unwell".
