to think it must be possible to register for the 11+ late?

My friend has just found out that her ex husband has failed to register her son for the 11+ (or Kent test I think it is now) by the deadlines, despite promising he would do...
Her son has been working so hard towards this for 18 months and it now looks like he won't be allowed to take it due to his irresponsible father.
How is it fair to punish him for something his father hasn't done - and especially something that could have a massive impact on his education .
Contacting the council has got her nowhere as they won't budge...
AIBU to think there must be some way to get him to be able to take that test?
Any suggestions or advice very much appreciated..

This is the thread previously mentioned:

The child was allowed to sit it in the end - you need to go through all the pages. Might be worth a PM too.

I see the couple you mnetion are not together - is there any indication that the ex did it on purpose etc? That may be grounds, - I would try everything to stop my hard-working child missing out, just because their father can't send a form in on time!

I'm a Kent headteacher- if KCC say they can't accept a late application, they mean it! However, if your friend is confident that her child is suitable for grammar, she can name a grammar school (or schools) on her school preference form in October. A place at a grammar school won't be offered in the spring, but provided it is named on the SCAF (the application form) a parent can appeal directly to the school (s) for a place, even without taking the Kent test. Then it is down to the parent to persuade the grammar school that the child is suitable! Good luck!

The deadline was right at the start of July so it has been missed by a long way. Are there any mitigating circumstances? Why didn’t your friend do it / check it had been done? Our school newsletter has reminders for weeks about applying.

That other child wasn't in Kent and it was a school test, rather than a county wide thing. Totally different situation

Poor kid although not going to grammar isn't the end of the world
