... to want to do c section prep?

Beeperbird · 25/07/2018 23:27

So it’s late, hot, I’m 38 weeks pregnant and can’t sleep!
The current churnings of my mind are on very important topics such as prep for a planned c section I’m having in a week so thought I’d get some thoughts!
AIBU to want to get my legs & bikini line waxed as prep for c section?
DH thinks I’m being silly but I’m freaking out at the thought of the surgeon getting in there and not being able to do anything because of all the hair!! Obv they’re not gonna be looking at my legs but I feel like some sort of gorilla monster at the moment Blush

I had my regular wax about a month before and a shave around central reservation.

However nurse presented me with a plastic basic Bic and asked if I could sort it a bit lower at the front Blush

@tenbob
Oooh good idea didn’t think of anything like that... I remember getting out of bed was a bitch after my emcs... complicated rolling and leg moving so I could kinda “flop” out Grin very elegant!

Section 15 weeks ago, they just took a strip off at the top in theatre where they made the incision.

Nan0second · 26/07/2018 09:19

Don’t wax or shave. Increases the risk of wound infection. Instead get scissors and carefully trim the hairs short / close to the skin. This keeps the healthy bacteria in the right place and promotes better healing.

Oopsy41 · 26/07/2018 10:25

@Beeperbird
It was a struggle to do, I had a massive bump and couldn't see properly so think I went in looking a bit moth eaten! Smile
Plus there was no way I was letting my husband down there with a razor. Smile

Booboostwo · 26/07/2018 11:02

They didn’t shave me at all for either one of two ELCSs. The incision was just above the hair line. I imagine it all depends where your hair line is, worst case they may need to shave a line at the top but that’s it.

Beeperbird · 26/07/2018 12:48

Thanks!

@Nan0second really useful info, good to know

@Booboostwo sometimes feels like my hair reaches my tummy button! Haha! BlushGrin

@Oopsy41 Completelt understand... seeing my DH shaving his own face I’d never let him near my down below with anything sharp!

I had 2 emergency C sections and one planned - DH said before the third one he would shave my section line as he had been so horrified at how the midwives had done it for the previous 2!! Ok I was more concerned about getting the baby out healthy than the nicks and grazes that he saw but took him up on the offer!" There was something very relaxing about having someone else shave your stomach and legs when heavily pregnant Grin

SunnyCoco · 26/07/2018 13:06

I was told to wax bikini line otherwise the doctor would shave me. Didn’t fancy that 🤷‍♀️

Topseyt · 26/07/2018 15:07

Wiggly, mine was totally shaved off. Sometimes they do.

SPARKS17 · 26/07/2018 15:12

Ive just got back from seeing my consultant (booked in on Monday) and the midwife who was in with me told me to shave before hand on Sunday as they won't do it pre surgery.....health and safety apparently!!

Would rather be told in advance than be handed a razor on the day!

TroubledLichen · 26/07/2018 15:49

I was given no pre-op instructions but got my usual bikini wax as there was no way a) I was going au naturel or b) letting a nurse dry shave the area. If I had another section and was advised not to I’d 100% ignore those instructions! If there was a genuine infection risk it would surely be across the board advice to leave it and not specific to individual hospitals.

WigglyBlossom · 27/07/2018 22:22

Wiggly, mine was totally shaved off. Sometimes they do.

Not any place I've worked and I'm an obstetric scrub nurse. It's an infection risk.

WineAndTiramisu · 27/07/2018 22:41

They didn't do anything with mine (emergency c section, but not a crash one), did mean some hairs got stitched into the wound though, didn't seem to help with the healing process Grin

3boysandabump · 27/07/2018 23:23

I shave everything off anyway so will be hair free when I go in for mine in Tuesday.
Good luck op

rosenylund · 27/07/2018 23:24

Ok, can i ask as baby is coming out the sunroof, why do they shave? Also where do they shave and how far do they go?? Confused

TroubledLichen · 27/07/2018 23:31

The sunroof hatch is quite low, below your knicker line.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/07/2018 23:32

The incision for a Caesarian section is done low down, @rosenylund - so it is in the pubic hair - this is done to disguise the scar, though obviously this wouldn’t work in a woman who shaves there.

rosenylund · 29/07/2018 00:30

Thank you ladies Blush

Yeah, the first thing people with BDSM tendencies do for their kink is working in the NHS Hmm

10/10 for trying Biscuit

TurnipCake-my point exactly. You have summed up the nhs in one short sentence. I bet any money you're a midwife or OR nurse. No wonder people are scared if they are going to be faced with attitudes from people like you.

LOL, nope

I do get paid to wear latex and touch people's junk though...

JudasPrudy · 04/12/2018 13:09

Definitely get your hair and eyebrows done. I felt a bit daft worrying about that at the time but now I'm glad that in my post birth pics I look half decent.
