Pipeup · 25/07/2018 22:47

Got some almond oil today from the pharmacy for my dds cradle cap. I've read online people use it for all sorts.

What do you use it for?

How do you use it? And does it really work?

Sorry I know it's not an aibu just posted for traffic as In really interested in the answers it's cheap stuff so if it works then i need to know!

Thanks in advance!

Add a few drops of essential oil for a lovely scented moisturizing/massage oil

FASH84 · 25/07/2018 22:49

Stretch marks, baking, hair treatment, it's good for hands and nails too , I don't wash up much but if I do I put some on before the gloves and let it do its magic

Pipeup · 25/07/2018 22:51

Does anyone use on their face?

I use an along oil pen from The Body shop on my cuticles.
Don't see why you couldn't use it on your face.

GameofPhones · 25/07/2018 22:58

It's the best I've found so far for hair. Very light, and leaves no residue if you only use a tiny amount.

Faster · 25/07/2018 23:03

Ive used it in the water I soak ds’s Washable wipes in.

Pipeup · 25/07/2018 23:04

Ahh I see some are really loving it on the hair will definately give that a try and perhaps on hands. I guess really I'm just looking for ways to establish a good skin and haircare routine without spending a fortune and I do keep reading that all these natural oils can actually do more for you then the leading brands. I've always loved coconut oil.

I’ve read it’s good for dark circles, but never tried it for that to know if it works.

I’ve used it on my face before when I went through a phase of using only natural skincare

Baumederose · 25/07/2018 23:07

I use it for my hair in the the main, I smarm it on and sleep in it with a shower cap. I also use it as a body moisturiser and facial oil but not everyday, more as an overnight deep moisturise after a bath. Nails, cuticles too.

It's a good all rounder and very economical. I buy it by the litre from eBay and it lasts ages.

When i was a teenager, decades ago, i emptied and cleaned inside of a very pretty nail varnish bottle, filled it with almond oil and i used to apply it to my nails every evening and kept it on nails for half an hour whilst watching a soap. It made my nails very strong and they grew really fast.
Also another use: with the help of a cotton bud, i used to apply a bit on my eyelash roots to make them strong and long. It really helped, my eyelashes grew to be luxurious long and curvy but at first it used to sting my eyes, as it went into the eyes if applied too much. So i started to apply it less and got used to it. I used to apply it just before bedtime so I would go to bed straightaway and close my eyes and go to sleep with oil on my eyelashes. All night to work its magic.
So it works for eyelashes and nails.

Hair mask, apply to damp clean hair, put a towel over it
Mix with Hair conditioner mask for more enriching effect
Facial moisture
Taking off make up

BlueBug45 · 25/07/2018 23:37

Skin moisturizer and hair conditioner - mostly in cooler weather though.

I also use coconut oil and olive oil. Coconut oil is heavier and olive oil smells more.

Burrumpeel · 25/07/2018 23:39

Stopping almonds from squeaking?

CSIblonde · 25/07/2018 23:43

I use it on dent/wrinkle between my eyes & its completely got rid of it - and on my flaky nails & dry hands. Tried it on dark circles under eyes but they got sore & puffy. (Ive got v sensitive allergy prone skin tho). .

LeighaJ · 25/07/2018 23:44

A gyno told me to use it for my perenium if it's still tight.

seventhgonickname · 25/07/2018 23:48

I had some when did had cradle cap too,I used the leftovers on my knees,I found I was on them so much when she was little and it kept the skin nice and soft. Also good on dry heels.

fizzthecat1 · 25/07/2018 23:50

I use it as a make up remover it is the best :) it removes everything. I used to have oily skin too and it fixed that.

Cheekyandfreaky · 25/07/2018 23:58

Like @LeighaJ I used it on my perenium but it was to prepare for labour to avoid tearing. I still needed stitches, so wouldn’t bother!

I used the rest of the bottle for hair masks overnight before washing hair the next day. It worked well for that!

mavydoes · 26/07/2018 00:06

In my ears for wax.

Warm some up in a dropper and use each night for a week then clean ears out at nurse appointment or gently showering with water aimed at head.

Think it's also a good base for aromatherapy too.

esk1mo · 26/07/2018 00:07

i havent used almond oil but have always been intrigued. i did buy 3 oils for £20 on amazon - apricot kernal, macadamia and avocado. i use them in cooking and for my hair (mixed with coconut oil).

i also use an oil called Biona Daily Essential Balance Oil which has evening primrose, flax, sunflower, hemp, sesame, pumpkin and pomegranate oils!

lastly i use a vitamin E oil with blackcurrant, evening primrose and macadamia oil around my eyes and on scars from operation.

as you can see i LOVE oil Grin to me its such an easy way to give your body some much appreciated good fats. im inclined to believe that most people in the UK do not consume enough healthy oils and theres so much more out there than just fish oil Smile a little goes a long way as well, so even though it might be £5-10 for a bottle of say, hemp oil, the cost per use is cheap.

sorry for rambling!

VladmirsPoutine · 26/07/2018 00:12

Skin and hair. It works wonders. Especially so as a BAME woman it can be quite tricky to get the right balance with other products.

Redyoyo · 26/07/2018 00:15

I've only ever used it for waxy ears, doctor even prescribed it for dd2 for a blocked ear, i alway keep a bottle in the house now, ive never thought of using it for any thing else.

Verbena87 · 26/07/2018 00:15

@cheekyandfreaky I use it to massage my episiotomy scar; it’s now way more supple and doesn’t itch any more, so when it’s failed you on the pre-birth perineal massage front, at least it can help heal the resulting damage!
