I really need to save money on the food shop but struggling to find recipes that please my family, who mostly turn their noses up if there isn't meat and/or something really stodgy. Please could I have your ideas for recipes that are cheap, healthy and filling?

Lentils and chickpeas!

I soak dried lentils for ten minutes then boil. Skim the scum, and then add canned tomatoes, leeks, bottom of the fridge veg diced up, add some spices- cumin, ccoriander seeds, cardomom, turmeric and simmer for half hour. Serve with omelette and salad . I do the same with chick peas!

Batch Green lentils are cooked and chilled for the following 3/4 days of side salad.

And using the chicken Carcass for chicken stock to use in cooking rice!

Buy meat/salmon when it's fresh and on offer and freeze.

Thanks @yy558 - I like the sound of something that can be used as a side for a few days, cuts down on the work!

@DiggertyDamn that's incredibly kind of you, thank you so much! Am staying with the in-laws this week but will have another go at the recipe when I get home and let you know the result!
