I've let my home become a tip

I've sent DC away as it's disgusting and I have to do something.

Only posting to make myself get on with it really. I'm utterly ashamed and want them to come back to a sparkly home and better mum.

I know you're not meant to do KonMari in one go but should I just bin everything in my way to get rid of the clutter and on top of things? I'm overweight and overwhelmed, maybe just binning anything that I don't love and doesn't fit would reduce the work involved in fixing this?

How are you getting on today @TomasztheWankEnginegoesToot hope you aren’t to affected by today’s heat! Your OP has motivated me to get sorting too, I’ve been avoiding the loft for over a year but I’ve bitten the bullet 😬

I would start by things that make a bit initial massive visual difference -get if a floor is covered in clothes a good idea to put them in bin bags in a different room so the floor is totally clear. Aim to have very little out on the sides and clear surfaces. I remember when I put all photos in frames into photo albums away in a cupboard and how much less dust there then was.

I sympathise. We’ve had decorating work done and we also inherited stuff. I’ve lost count of the bags and boxes of stuff I’ve taken to various charity shops. I’ve done dump runs, a car boot and we had a skip and we’ve still got clutter everywhere.

My children and my husband are messy. I resent clearing up after them and the mess remains. Dh doesn’t like me giving stuff away so I put it on facebook and eBay and it doesn’t sell because nobody wants to pay for anything. I’m ashamed to let anyone in. My house is beautifully decorated but a total mess.

I am going to try and blitz the living room today though, you’ve inspired me!

I did something! I brought a half ton box around and sent eldest round to her friends, youngest to "help" dh and chose the living room. Pulled everything into the middle threw out the crap we didn't actually need, brushed out behind the sofa (cats I'm looking at you going by all the bits of string and fluff) mopped and hoovered. I started in one corner putting things back neatly cleaning as I went and even brought our old coffee table back from the spud loft to put some toys under taking the bad look off the toy shelves. Then I put some scented candles and an oil diffuser on the fireplace so we cover it in papers and hair bobbles again. Just another 5 squillion rooms to go

I'm in the midst of sorting too!! I feel like I've let me house get a mess. Slowly slowly. Sold so many DVDs cds books games etc on music magpie. Some were really cheap but I was never gonna use them again so was quicker and easier than car boot sale which is my next task! Good luck all
