MLM and vulnerable people

So we all know MN loves a good MLM debate... or just hate them full stop.

I’m part of a group for vulnerable new mums. It’s not overseen by any profession- just a peer support type thing.

New joiner.

Invites everyone to a pamper/feel good/nutrition session tomorrow night and finally get out that she’s an MLM bot.

She claims she’s vulnerable. I have no reason to disbelieve apart from she doesn’t ever actually partake in anything that can’t be related to MLMing.

Her ‘targets’ are seriously vulnerable. She’s going on about how she’s regained confidence, her body and life. This is what these ladies crave.

What would you do?

You have cottoned-on quickly that she is an MLM bot. Regardless of her situation, she is trying to draw you all in to her expensive, and ultimately ruinous, scheme. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

I’d tell her not to use your group for business and boot her out if she continues

CeridwensCottage · 24/07/2018 22:52

If you’re in charge of the group then get rid of her. She might leave her details with the mums before she goes though.

Perhaps the mums could do with a pep talk on how to protect themselves against bots.

We had a bit try to infiltrate our peer support group once. We closed ranks and she gave up. I appreciate that is harder with a vulnerable group, but she needs removing from the group if at all possible.

Good luck.

glueandstick · 24/07/2018 23:05

The pep talk sounds a really fabulous idea. I like this a lot! Hmm could incorporate self esteem and all sorts. That is a GENIUS plan.

And it wasn’t hard to work it out once she mentioned the company ;)

Have people from the group already signed up to attend?

Either way, I'd make a quick rule that no touting for business is allowed.

glueandstick · 24/07/2018 23:08

Yup. And a few going on about how they’ve heard the products really can change lives 🤦‍♀️

Totally agree with Guest0698

Arrgh, how annoying. I'd have to post some of the evidence refuting whatever nonsense claims have been made, I think.
