House sitting for a friend again, she has an aga. I cannot fathom it. The house is hotter in summer. It’s crap at cooking most things. It used a shit ton of gas.

Why oh why do some people list after the things?

My Aga is the very heart of our home - we have an AIMS programmable electric Aga which I love. An Aga you can turn off whenever you want and run on slumber mode.
It cooks food much better than a conventional oven.
It prevents all cooking smells.
It’s big enough for Christmas lunches
It warms the house
It dries laundry
It also dries trainers and prevents rusty cake tins
It sterilises jam jars
It reduces need for ironing

Why wouldn’t you want one?

My parents put one in a 3 bed 30s house. I think they’re mental. I totally get them in big draughty old farmhouses in the middle of nowhere, but it is below my old room and makes it unbearably hot. It’s their only cooker (if you can’t cook on it, get one of the many available books, it IS a great cooker if you’re competent) so is on year round. My childhood memory is mother’s mantra: ‘Eeeh, get them lids down!’

I’m dreading going up next month :(

@possumgoddess yes to Aga ironing!!
