Sorry I know this isn’t an AIBU but I’m looking for some help and I know the traffic here is huge! Hoping someone can help as I can’t seem to find a clear answer anywhere!

6 and a half month old breastfed baby, she’s weaning and drinks water. Here in the UK you can use straight from the tap at 6months old. We’re going to Spain in a week and wondered if anyone knows what she can drink? Is Evian safe straight from the bottle into her cup? Does it need to be boiled? Thanks!

Evian is fine but Lanjaron is cheaper! Bezoya too. They often have pics of babies on the back to say they are low sodium and suitable.

MrsJayy · 24/07/2018 08:57

I would just use bottled water straight out of the bottle it is fine you can buy huge bottles of ordinary still water from a € or 2 I wouldn't bother with evian

Have answered on another thread

When buying bottled water, check the mineral content of the water. Steer clear of bottled water with a high mineral content, and try to use still water that’s low in sodium. Look for Na on the label, which means sodium, and choose one that contains 200mg or less of Na per litre. Check the levels of sulphate (SO or SO4), too. The sulphate levels should be no higher than 250mg per litre.

We live in Spain and we all drink from the tap. In some areas it might taste funny but safe. We lived in one apartment where we used to buy bottled just because of taste but in current area it just tastes normal so straight from the tap. Are you going to a city?

My folks have lived in Spain part time for many years. They do not drink the water here as it gives us belly ache. We buy bottled water - where we are Carrefour sell big bottles which appear to be the cheapest but Mercanona and other supermarkets also sell.

It depends on where you are going. To be safe I'd get bottled water. The ones with a small picture of a baby on the side mean suitable for babies

Ihatemyneighbours1234 · 24/07/2018 09:34

Yes I have also posted elsewhere! Thanks for the help, does anyone know the name of the water they’ve previously used? Right ok so if there’s a pic of a baby it is safe and doesn’t need to be boiled. Excellent

Just dont give mineral water. as another poster said, check the sodium.
Personally I would boil and cool tap water

dementedpixie · 24/07/2018 09:38

We didn't even drink the tap water when we were in Spain so i wouldn't give tap water to a baby

CottonSock · 24/07/2018 09:39

It's easy to find brands with the baby symbol in supermarkets

MoominMamaBear · 24/07/2018 17:36

Font Vella (sp?) is safe for babies.

Fluffyears · 24/07/2018 18:04

@vivasticks it’s not about the taste, a change in usual drinking water can give you tummy pain and d&v. The advice is to stick to bottled stuff when away from home.

I don't think there would ever be a point in boiling bottled water, the issue with mineral water is they some has high sodium which won't be removed by boiling. If the tap water tastes ok to you I would just use that, maybe boil to be on the safe side. I gave my 7 month old unboiled tap water in Greece and she was fine.
