Unless you’re the bride you wear the same one for day and night Grin Can’t help with dresses specifically for you but I’m sure you look better than you think you do. If in doubt drink enough champagne that you don’t care!

Ive never been to a wedding where either the bride or guests change outfits. Is that really a thing???

Hellywelly10 · 24/07/2018 03:17

You dont need to change op. What brands do you like? Do you have anything you can build a outfit around, shoes, top, bag etc?

PinkCalluna · 24/07/2018 03:27

Scottish weddings are traditionally in the afternoon with the reception going until midnight (we do like a good ceilidh).

Guests do not change outfits.

It’s quite common for ladies to have a dress with a jacket/wrap over it during the day. By the time the meal
is over and the dancing starts all the jackets are long gone.

I’m sure MN can help you find something regardless of size and shape.

Oasis have a sale on at the moment and there's some beautiful dresses in the natural history museum collaboration.

I've got one for a reception I'm going to this weekend.

It must be tricky to find something you like if you believe your body is horrible. Can you be kinder to yourself?

Maybe think about what styles work best on your shape... Are you taller or more petite? Large chest or small chest? Relatively long torso, or longer legs?

I look ok in a v-neck on-the-knee dress because I'm large-chested with legs that are shorter relative to my torso. I would look less good in a high neck calf length dress. This was true when I was very slim and also when I was morbidly obese, and remains true now that I'm at the top end of 'normal' weight.

What suits your proportions?

Guests do change. Some are having a wedding breakfast which is actually a full on meal late afternoon. Having spent hours at the service firsthand. Then the evening guests arrive for a full on party. Till the early hours. depends on your stamina I guess Smile

Yes, but I only know of brides doing it. On the second night of my daughters wedding she changed out of her traditional wedding dress much later on in the evening into a short dress that looked very much like a wedding dress even though it wasnt. I loved it when I spotted it in a shop and bought it as a surprise for her so that when she said something along the lines of I'm feeling a bit hot or I can't dance properly in my dress I told her to go up to her bedroom (the wedding was in our garden) and see what was on her bed.

@billsbillsbillsbills have you changed your name?
We’re going to need some more context, what country/ culture is the wedding? Why do you think that guests will change?

I have read on here about a wedding at which guests were going to change (though I can’t remember where that wedding was being held), but i’ve never encountered it in real life. The traditional British weddings i’ve been to have all been basically as Monty27 describes but without anyone going and changing (service, wedding breakfast, speeches, evening party - often with extra food late - and to which additional guests are invited who weren’t invited to the formal meal/service)
Also for outfit advice - what kind of body shape do you have?
