AIBU to ask for urgent skincare help. Getting married this weekend

Posting here for traffic, sorry. I've spent the evening sobbing and I need some help.

I've had a really strong, bad reaction to a new moisturiser this past weekend. My entire forehead has erupted in lumpy, sore acne after using a different product.

I'm devastated and I look like shit. There is no sugar coating it, I look awful. To top it off we're going on holiday next week and I wanted to go makeup free - that's just not possible now.

I'm not taking a photo of my face at the moment. But it looks like the picture attached. I'm not exaggerating - mine has even bigger lumps at my temples. I'm 33 for fucks sake, I've got grey hair, I've not had a breakout this bad since I was a teenager.

AIBU to ask what I should be doing to get my forehead not lumpy? Off colour but flat I can cope with, but you can't conceal lumps. Please help me!

Freederm, even

Franzipanny11 · 24/07/2018 11:04

ShovingLeopard - that Freedern stuff looks amazing. Gives all the benefits of some more very expensive professional brands. Good stuff. Off to purchase!

callmeadoctor · 24/07/2018 11:13

I would also consider having a fringe cut in (if all else fails) x

callmeadoctor · 24/07/2018 11:14

Also consider short course of antibiotics from GP (but probably won't work in time for wedding :-( )

MotherofKitties · 24/07/2018 11:21

I agree with PP about getting an antihistamine; ask your local pharmacist for advice.

Also, try a hydrocortisone cream; I use it for my eczema but two days before I got married I got a huge stress-induced spot on my face, used a tiny amount regularly on the spot and it went by the morning of my wedding (at least, down enough that by the time I had my makeup done you couldn't tell I'd had a breakout!)

Good luck OP, hope it goes in time for the big day Thanks

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 24/07/2018 11:24

Oh god OP I feel for you.

I’d see a doctor, I really don’t think some of the things recommended on here are recommended for inflamed broken skin and you run the risk of making it worse.

Racecardriver · 24/07/2018 11:25
  1. Absolutely do not put any new products on your face.
  2. Don't bother with anti biotic-this us an alerigc reaction not true acne.
  3. Do not pop the pustules, wait for them to pop in their own. I know it looks horrible but if you leave it alone it will pass quicker.
Just return to your normal routine and wait fir your skin to calm down.
GirlInTheDirtyShirt · 24/07/2018 11:25

Dr Jart microjet cleaning solution is miraculous - it’s one of those Korean cloth facemask things, it’s on Amazon. I have feally bad acne and sensitive skin and it worked literally overnight.

MissStressBum · 24/07/2018 11:27

As an acne sufferer of years I can recommend finding a place near you that offers Dermalogica facials. A friend of mine did a few prescriptive facial ahead of her wedding and it really cleared her skin up.

I was sceptical, but decided to try one for myself the other week. The effect was not immediate but a few days later my skin had improved to a point where it looked the best it has it years. It is a gentle treatment and you should be able to buy the products that work for you. I doubt it will heal everything in time for the weekend but it should calm things loads. Also they have some products that help keep your face matte for the day which should be perfect for a wedding. I recommend using make up like bare minerals for covering acne.

That's what I think will work in the short term. Don't do anything aggressive to your skins whatsoever! I agree with others suggesting antihistamine and visiting a dermatologist for advice if needed. GPs don't always have detailed skin care knowledge so may be best to go straight to a dermatologist. It'll have to be private to get seen tomorrow so won't be cheap, often private practices offer a free initial consultation. It's the treatment they'll likely charge for.

Oh, and finally, do whatever you can to stop stressing this instant as stress makes acne so much worse! Also the weather is boiling so try to keep cool to prevent extra sebaceous oils being produced.

kathekollander · 24/07/2018 11:33

OP this is the best cream I have ever used and sorts my skin out immediately if I have a reaction to anything:

Want2bSupermum · 24/07/2018 11:34

You need to see a dermatologist. I had an awful reaction to a Garnier eye roller and their fruictus shampoo and conditioner. I had welts all over my scalp from the shampoo/conditioner. The dermatologist shook his head and said I'm not the first or last to have an allergic reaction to their products.

Where are you? Someone can probably recommend a doctor here.

catlady34 · 24/07/2018 11:39

Only prescription stuff will sort that out. Go see your doctor ASAP

Allthewaves · 24/07/2018 11:41

Get some benedryl or claritin incase it's an allergic reaction. Then I'd use some hydrocortisone cream.

maggiecate · 24/07/2018 11:44

If all else fails, there are some full cover foundations that might work for the duration of the wedding. If you're near London Kryolan have a store in Covent Garden, they are the film and theatrical makeup specialists and they have formulas that can cover tattoos and scarring. Alteratively Dermacol make the most pigmented foundation you can get but you have to be careful you're getting the genuine article

LaDilettante · 24/07/2018 11:49

Get your GP to prescribe some anti-histamine. It’s much stronger and better than the ones you buy over the counter.

MikeUniformMike · 24/07/2018 11:50

Antibiotics take a while to work. An antihistamine or antihistamine cream would be my preferred course of action.
If you are seeing a GP ask for Zineryt or a topical acne lotion. It will dry out the acne.
Don't start applying new creams and lotions.
If you haven't got any get some industrial strength concealer for the big day.

LartenCrepsley · 24/07/2018 11:53

I’ve reacted to Garnier in the past, though not to that extent. Flowers
I don’t know if it’s a national thing, but my local Lloyd’s Chemist is a “skin specialist” pharmacy. They helped me a lot when pregnancy sent my skin bonkers.

efeslight · 24/07/2018 12:00

I would also go straight to the gp or dermatologist. I came out with huge cold sores just before i got married. Straight to the dr for anti virals and some good make up and you can't see it at all on the photos. I would nt put anything else on it. And agree with going on the sun bed, maybe a few times if poss. Little and often

Confusedbeetle · 24/07/2018 12:03

The GP might be able to give you something to calm it down but I would be very very wary of any home remedies or makeup. Bite the bullet between now and your wedding and leave it to the fresh air. Anything else might make it worse

Butterymuffin · 24/07/2018 12:10

Pay to see a dermatologist ASAP. They are skin specialists. Then if they think a prescription item would help, see your GP and ask for that.

specialsubject · 24/07/2018 12:15

this thread is a classic of MN fuckwitted advice. Sunbed, baby bum cream, random shit from bloggers....

go see a real medical professional and put in a strong complaint against superdrug. Do not put any other muck on as it may happen again.

meantime have a lovely day and go makeup free on holiday. if your fiance was bothered he/she would not be worth marrying.

MikeUniformMike · 24/07/2018 12:19

Well said special subject.
Go to the GP asap.

justilou1 · 24/07/2018 12:20

No squeezing or you will have a forehead full of scabs. Definitely antihistamine cream. Probably antibiotics too. GP if you can get in.

MojoMoon · 24/07/2018 12:23

Private dermatologist appointment.

Proper doctor, not an aesthetic nurse or beauty therapist.

Antibiotics may help

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 24/07/2018 12:31

Sudocreme is not 'baby bum cream' and is amazing- take it from someone who knows!
