Hedrin on bleached (damaged) hair?

thisislousy · 23/07/2018 10:46

Posting here for traffic.

I have long hair with highlights. I got the highlights a few weeks ago and they’ve really damaged my hair, lots of breakage. Just put Olaplex on a few days ago.

The kids have lice and I’m 99.9% sure I do too! Just found the lice last night and really have to treat today.

What’s Hedrin lotion going to do to my hair? Am I fucked? It’s already so damaged! What can I do?

Combing with the nitty gritty is out of the question anyway (even if DH could actually manage it). My hair will just break off, I’d be better off getting a buzz cut! Help!

My dd had lice the other week Blush i used it as a precaution. It didn't cause any damage to my colour treated hair which isn't in the best condition.

In all honesty tho- I'd say you dont have a choice.

Have you been back to original salon? How did the highlights cause so much damage Sad

GahWhatever · 23/07/2018 10:54

the active ingredient in Hedrin (which smothers the lice) is the same thing used in glossers to coat and protect the hair (dimeticone).
You may find it helps your hair's condition.

callmyagent · 23/07/2018 10:58

Loads and loads of thick white conditioner and the nit comb. It might help the highlights. Have you asked the salon for help/more Olaplex to fix the damage? Sounds terrible, you poor thing.

thisislousy · 23/07/2018 11:09

Thanks so much for the fast replies. I agree, I have no choice - have to be lice-free whatever it does to my hair!

I really can’t comb it callmyagent, the ends break off just in my hands so a louse comb would be the end of it. DH breaks it all with the comb anyway which is why I no longer let him do it! (It’s not my first rodeo, though I haven’t had lice for a while.)

I don’t know why there’s so much damage, I think my hair was in pretty poor condition to start with and now it’s really bad. I’m probably exaggerating a bit - it’s not like it’s fried or anything, but the highlights are breaking very easily. I’ve had a lot of compliments as well.

I have Olaplex 3 here so I guess I’ll do the Hedrin, see how it goes, and Olaplex later if necessary. I’m hoping that gah is right though!

Hedrin here I come 🐜!!!

To be fair my hair was so soft afterwards it was frizzy and greasy.

I do feel for you. Have you been back to the salon? Your hair should not be like thos after highlighting. If it was in poor condition they shouldn't have done it in the first place. FWIW i avoid bleach at all costs these days. Such a shame. Good luck with the little blighters- i shuddered for weeks Flowers

SaucyJack · 23/07/2018 11:13

I agree it'll probably help your hair rather than damaging it further.

As far as I'm aware, Herron works by smothering the life ina thick coating which suffocates them to death. It's not poisoning with harsh chemicals.

SaucyJack · 23/07/2018 11:14

Excuse typos- screen is dying.

Inertia · 23/07/2018 11:20

Hedrin is exceptionally oily - it works by basically smothering the lice, and making the hair so slippery that lice and eggs cannot grip onto the hair. It won't dry your hair out any more.

If I were you, I would brush my hair with a tangle teaser brush, then applying the Hedrin, then comb through with nitty gritty comb.

thisislousy · 23/07/2018 17:09

While I was upstairs DH put half - HALF - the bottle of Hedrin on DD's extremely fine hair. WTAF? There's oil all over the place, I hate to think how many times we're going to have to wash it to try to get out of her hair.

Oh and it cost a bloody fortune, too!

You still need to comb through the hair after using hedrin. It does kill the majority but it’s always possible for a couple to escape plus you need to comb out the dead nits as grim as that is.

Longdistance · 23/07/2018 17:18

Half a bottle? Shock

That stuffs so bloody expensive. I did dds last week. I used 2/3 in total. Their hair was beautifully soft afterwards.

ginnybag · 23/07/2018 17:24

Green fairy liquid straight onto her dry hair and let it sit for a couple of minutes, then really rub it in before wetting. Repeat with the washing up liquid until you're getting bubbles then wash and condition as normal.

thisislousy · 23/07/2018 17:27

mousefunky yes, I agree, it still should be combed - I figure I'm better off doing us all again in a week than risking combing through my hair with the nit comb though. I've got really thick hair that tends to stick in it anyway, and it will just break off now!

Thanks for the fairy liquid tip ginny and indeed all the tips on this thread. I feel less alone now Wink

I hear ya' - we had to Hedrin last week, and I've got highlighted hair. The Hedrin's actually really oily, not drying at all, if anything it softened my hair.

thisislousy · 23/07/2018 17:29

DD looked like she'd dipped her head in a vat of oil, it would have been quite funny if it wasn't for the expense and the oil spots on my (cheap Ikea) chair cushion!

Thanks DH Hmm

I think you can get it for free sometimes at s chemist like calpol etc? Anyway best shampoo to wash it out with is head and shoulders

JustVent · 23/07/2018 18:20

The Hedrin won’t work anyway. If you’ve got the breed of nits that we had.

Stubborn bastards.

thisislousy · 23/07/2018 21:08

DD’s hair came up lovely. DH had washed it for her already before I could get in with the fairy liquid idea. It dried very greasy and wet-looking. Brushed it and used plenty of dry shampoo, it looks lovely now and will probably wash the whole mess out in the morning!

I have high hopes for the Hedrin, it worked last time🤞🏾

For the record you were all right, it hasn’t damaged my hair at all. The amount of shampoo I had to use wasn’t ideal, but my hair is fine.
