What kinds of genre are you into?

Wolfiefan · 22/07/2018 21:03

I'm rediscovering my mojo so can I lurk to hear recommendations please?

VeryHangryCaterpillar · 22/07/2018 21:04

Apple Tree Yard was good

wellBeehivedWoman · 22/07/2018 21:05

Tell us a couple of things you've enjoyed before so we know what you like

LiveatCityHall · 22/07/2018 21:05

My go-to author is Neil Gaiman. His book Neverwhere is a great one to start with, especially if you know London. It's a page turner and I was gripped from the start.

2up2manydown · 22/07/2018 21:08

I’ve just finished The Party by Elizabeth Day and Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. I enjoyed both. Little Fires was especially gripping. Both well-written (I can’t read dross or chick-lit) but easy and fast-faced.

MrsFionaCharming · 22/07/2018 21:10

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell, it’s a rom-com, but very clever and witty, not at all fluffy or cheesy. Easy read and very enjoyable.

cardibach · 22/07/2018 21:11

Elinor Oliphant is Absolutely Fine is a great read.
The Mermaid’s Sister by Carrie Anne Noble - magic realism and very absorbing.

WillyTree · 22/07/2018 21:12

I’m reading Rotherweird at the moment. Easy read, really different to what I normally go for and I can’t put it down (except when I’m dicking about on MN obviously).

DorothyGarrod · 22/07/2018 21:13

Another vote for Eleanor Oliphant

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/07/2018 21:14

I found you by Lisa Jewell

AdaColeman · 22/07/2018 21:15

Another vote for Apple Tree Yard.

Moominfan · 22/07/2018 21:16

Currently reading the kite runner khaled hosseini.

Set in Afghanistan story of a young girl born to a single mum and all the issues that come with it. First chapter had me hooked

LEMtheoriginal · 22/07/2018 21:16

I like a mixed bag really - anything from agatha raisin to crime and punishment. I like psychological thrillers and page turners although i really dislike anything where bad things happen to kids. No mis-lit or sadness as im prone to depression.

The Mists of Avalon is my favourite book. Especially if you like fantasy. But if you like fantasy you probably already know it 😄.

SidTheSquirrel · 22/07/2018 21:21

The things we find in rock pools.
Just finished it, sorta predictable but not and an easy read.

BetterEatCheese · 22/07/2018 21:24

The Dead Ex
Woman in Cabin 10

Both page turners

MissusGeneHunt · 22/07/2018 21:26

The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde... Utterly brilliant, as are all the ones that follow. Would also suggest The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman. Happy reading, know what you mean about losing your reading mojo, has to be just right to get back into it, doesn't it?

AlmostAlwyn · 22/07/2018 21:30

Try 'Good Omens' by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, 'Behind the Scenes at the Museum' by Kate Atkinson, or 'Five Quarters of the Orange' by Joanne Harris :)

whatwouldkeithRichardsdo2 · 22/07/2018 21:30

Nutshell by Ian McEwan is short and great.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 22/07/2018 21:31

Eleanor Oliphant is brilliant I loved it

Liane Moriarty books are really gripping and easy to read

JustTheLemons · 22/07/2018 22:24

The Seven Deaths of Eleanor Hardcastle- best book I’ve read in years.

Would also recommend all of Robert Galbraith’s Cormoran Strike books if you haven’t read them. Easy reads and very gripping

Charley50 · 23/07/2018 08:04

Another one for Eleanor Oilphant.

XiCi · 23/07/2018 08:42

I've just got my reading mojo back by reading I am Pilgrim. It's a thriller. 600+ pages but I raced through it. It's one of those books that you don't want to put down.

Charley50 · 23/07/2018 09:25

@XiCi - I am Pilgrim is absolutely fucking brilliant. The epitome of gripping.
