To think School summer holidays should begin on the 1st of July.

It happens every year that the last three weeks of the school term become a sweat box. Why not abolish the Summer Half term holidays and find a week somewhere else to compensate.

. The 'published' school year(knowing that private schools finish 1st week in July). would be better starting the last week in August and finishing on the 30th of June.

Some of the Warrington primary schools have 2 weeks for May half term which I love as it’s my favourite time of year - lots of lovely long evenings in the garden or camping. When DD goes to high school in a couple of years I’ll love it less as the holidays with DS’ primary school will be out of sync.
It does mean my children don’t finish until Wednesday though, practically August!

My PS kids get from end June-end Aug. (ireland) we always did. Sec school ends end of May if no exams. Yes childcare a pain but kids were flat out by end june & it's not like you don't know it's comming! . Felt sorry for our UK cousins. One of the schools they in (grammar school) the boys aren't even allowed take off their blazers outside the classroom in the heatwave. What are they trying to instill / prove there I wonder?!

I completely agree. June and July are often better for weather than August. But I also agree with the point about going back sooner making it a very long winter term.
They finish way to late for Christmas in my opinion to.
