AIBU to find these odd? Especially from distant Facebook friends who have invited me to donate towards their birthday fundraiser when I've never even sent them a card in the past.

Don't they just appear to all friends? I just ignore if it's a charity I don't support.

Wait are they using their birthday to raise money for a charity or asking their friends to donate money to them for their birthday?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/07/2018 20:45

The ones I've seen are raising money for charity. My cousin asked for donations to a prostate cancer charity in memory of a friend.

Xenite89 · 22/07/2018 20:45

The money they raise goes straight to the charity as far as I know.

MsSquiz · 22/07/2018 20:54

It's the same as a just giving page, the money goes straight to the chosen charity afaik.

You choose your charity and can invite friends to see the post/page and they can donate should they wish.
There's no obligation to donate. I did it for my birthday a few weeks ago, no one was under any pressure to donate but some friends and family did. It's a charity I do a lot of fundraising for and is very close to my heart and people were very generous and donated way more than I expected

I think they are posts to all friends, as opposed to you having been specially chosen. There is absolutely no obligation to donate.
I ignore all of them, and would never dream of posting one.

I don't mind charity fundraisers I can always ignore if I don't support the charity. Sounds similar to sponsorship requests which always go to everyone.
