To wonder if I need to pull 50 hour weeks to earn above 23k?

Im looking at moving up the next pay grade at work, starting point is 23k for a 37.5 hour week.
Except I know ( as it's internal) that it's expected to be 50 hours with no pay for over time.

I'm a single parent and it's out of the question that i could manage that on a regular basis. And besides that i just don't want to.

So, if I want to earn above this wage is this something I need to just suck up or is it just my workplace ( nhs)

When I was younger I did 50 hour weeks every week for just above minimum wage, because I stupidly believed my employer when they said it was normal, it was showing good will, it would prove myself in the workplace. I had a lightbulb moment one day and just started leaving on time. And not a single bloody thing changed. It didn't change my pay, it didn't change how people treated me, it didn't change my long term prospects, it didn't change anything except to make me feel much less miserable.

For £23k, take your salary and leave on time.

I earn £27k for a 36.25 hour week, probably average 40 hours a week. I certainly wouldn't work a 50 hour week for £23k!

There’s no way you should be working 50 hours a week for 23k, it’s a very low salary to be doing lots of unpaid overtime

So an extra 2.5hrs a day for an extra £100 a month.

That's 50 hours over 4 weeks, so £2 an hour for those extra hours. Is it worth it?

Work your day today and then think "hmm if I keep on working for another 2 and half hours I will earn an extra fiver"... see if that makes your mind up.

Take the job and leave on time.
Can the job realistically be done satisfactorily in 37 hours?

I'd like to see how they could instigate performance management for not working 50 hours while not being paid.
