Holidays in term time

Been a tough two years with no holiday for my 6 year old DD. I can afford a holiday this year but it's the 3rd week of the new school year. Wibu to do it and enjoy my time with her or just go for a weekend?

I wouldn't take my child out of school for a holiday, no.

But she won't miss anything vitally important to her long term education if she misses a week at age 6.

Just remember to factor the cost of the fine in.

Definitely do it.

Be prepared for a mass of flaming from the holier-than-thou on mumsnet though, whose kids have 100% attendance, A* grades, and never have a MICRO second of school time off. Wink

Zen you would tell your 6 year old child that she must not say anything about her holiday at school? You'd tell her to lie when anyone asks about her week long illness. Really?? OP take your child if you want to and factor any fine into the savings you've made on the holiday.

I wouldn’t in the first few weeks . My Ds went back first day last September . Ended up in emergency surgery so then had a week off. . It took him over half a term to settle in .

It’s not the term time holiday it’s the timing for me.

I would definitely go in your situation. I don't think a 6 year old will miss too much in one week. We're actually going away for a long weekend the weekend after school starts back. My daughter will have 1 day at school then the Friday and Monday off. We've had a very difficult year as I've been in hospital for 7 months and have to go back in again soon. I couldn't afford to take them away in the holidays so I'm quite happy to take them in Sep so they get a little holiday.

Just go for the weekend and see what you can do for a break over Christmas or one of the half terms.

I'd do it in a heartbeat
