A guy said to me most women read mainly Mills & Boon books.

I thought he was an idiot...

I've never read Mills & Boon! I do like a bit of light hearted chick lit from time to time but not that!

Danglingmod · 22/07/2018 19:48

Well they don't sell them in Waterstones which is FULL of women customers so goodness knows what they're buying in there? Kids' books? Gifts for their husbands and sons?

Has this bloke ever been in a proper bookshop?

Electrascoffee · 22/07/2018 19:50

'Has this bloke ever been in a proper bookshop?'

Probably not. He didn't know anything about Henry the 8th. Or that he had 6 wives.

I read m&b and I’m 30! Granted I get my grandmother’s books when she has finished with them, but I read them!

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 22/07/2018 19:53

I worked in a bookshop nearly 20 years ago.

We used to on a monthly basis, send hundreds of Mills and Boon off to the library. You could always tell who was the "male star" of the moment depending on who they had based the male character on on the front cover.

Nellyphants · 22/07/2018 19:57

My mate who is a Finance Director for a very large multinational reads M&B. She says after a stressful day they’re like chewing gum for the eyes & brain

PunkrockerGirl59 · 22/07/2018 19:58

I get through 2-3 books per week and have done since my teens (and I'm an old gimmer). I've never read a M&B, romance isn't my kind of book, but I respect anyone who enjoys that particular genre. I'm all for people reading books and reading what they enjoy.
However, if a bloke said to said to me that women only read M&B he would have his arse handed to him on a plate together with a side order of his misogynistic bollocks

bookmum08 · 22/07/2018 19:58

For all of you who say you prefer thrillers/crime... Tess Gerristen and Alex Kava both has their early books published by Mills and Boon. They are a big publisher. They don't just do romance.

Thesearmsofmine · 22/07/2018 19:59

My mum used to read M&B before chick lit was a thing. She kept them in the car to pick up when picking me up from school or whatever, she says they were rubbish but easy to dip in and out of, she reads crime novels now she is retired and has more time on her hands.

I read chick lit among other things. I find them easy reading.

Mills & Boon makes me think of Barbara Cartland.
