Sealife Centre, disabled ticket, tesco ticket

Aibu to think that I could use my Tesco entry ticket for the 3 year old and then get in for free as an essential carer for him?

Will they allow this do you think or would I need to pay full price for him to get in free as an essential carer?

I bought a ticket to use before he turned 3 but didn't get chance and I don't have enough tesco vouchers for a second one

PinkyU · 22/07/2018 19:08

Plantlover - not necessarily. A lot of carers also work leaving them ineligible for carers allowance as it’s means tested.

WonkyWay · 22/07/2018 19:08

Sirzy · 22/07/2018 19:09

I was pleasantly surprised when a place which had free entry for children also let me in free as ds carer last year.

We had merlin passes for 2 years and I got a free carer one. When he could cope with going out we often couldn’t manage more than half an hour - if we had had to pay full price it simply wouldn’t have been worth it.

When you are going to anywhere as a carer it is completely different to attending “normally”

Storminateapot · 22/07/2018 19:11

Oh stupid phone - you don't need to be in receipt of carers allowance. In many places you don't need any documentation - for example I went to a stately home place a couple of weeks ago with my husband. I was in my wheelchair and the staff just gave us 1 full price ticket & 1 carer entrance without even having to ask or 'prove' anything.

Probably different if the disability isn't physical, but I imagine dla letter or diagnosis documentation would be sufficient,

Do you all know about the CEA card for cinema tickets too? Google it if not, very easy to apply for (at a small cost) with proof of disability.

Justwhenyouthink · 22/07/2018 19:14

User, do you reserve your anger for the parents of disabled children? Or do you also disapprove of two friends taking their children in together on family tickets, or wealthy, still working, older people buying senior tickets? If the company offers free carer tickets to their disabled guests then of course it is acceptable to use them. And IME Merlin do honour that arrangement when the ticket is bought with Tesco vouchers.

Thanks @pinkyu that’s are a real help. I’ll have a look now and pass on, we break up on weds and he’s got a late August irthday, his mums been desperate to take him - thanks

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/07/2018 19:24

Do we know if the OPs child has a disability?

I read it as the OP being an essential carer because a 3 year old can't go in on their own disability or no disability.

If the child does not have a disabled then the OP is being a CF.

UndertheCedartree · 22/07/2018 19:24

Anyone who is 'jealous' that a disabled child can get a carer in for free - would they be happy to swap and have a disabled child to look after just so they can get this 'perk'?

Good on the companies that try to make their attraction more inclusive for disabled people.

Hedgehog80 · 22/07/2018 19:25

For everyone on here with disabled dc please try merlins magic wand
You get FREE tickets for one of their attractions it’s really easy to apply we do it yearly and it’s great.
OP ignore any posters on here being ridiculous

PermanentPortakabin · 22/07/2018 19:27

What an extraordinary range of responses.

OP, send an email and ask. It can’t hurt, and I can’t see why you wouldn’t be allowed.

I have 3 disabled children. Meaning both H and I can get in for free/reduced rate when attending attractions.

It’s a very very small bonus when co pared with the complexities of our daily lives.

Not all places offer it (and smaller ones who can’t afford to do so, simply won’t), and we can then take a view as to whether it would be worth visiting here for us as a family (cost of day out vs likelihood of staying more than a couple of hours), but if it a concession offered, then why shouldn’t the OP ask whether she can use it?

shoelaces · 22/07/2018 19:31

I'm disabled and I used a free entry ticket to get me in to Legoland, a free entry ticket for my son and my husband got in free as my carer. I called them in advance and checked, we only had to pay for car parking.

TheFairyCaravan · 22/07/2018 19:37

Yes OP’s son is disabled. A quick AS proves that.

CrochetBelle · 22/07/2018 19:42

The fact that the OP clearly stated 'DISABLED TICKET' in the subject title shows that the child has a disability.

Maybe all you goady fucking ignorant fuckers should learn to READ before commenting.

Maiyakat · 22/07/2018 19:48

Somewhat amused that I should have the wellbeing of all Sealife's creatures on my conscience....

Most people going to Merlin attractions are getting buy one get one free anyway with their cereal packet / pizza box / soap bottle etc.

If small family run attractions can't afford to give carers' discounts that's fine - some people with disabilities will go anyway, others will choose not to. But if the company is offering the discount what on earth is wrong with taking it?!

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 22/07/2018 19:51

Those who don’t think a parent should have a free care ticket for a young child, should they not have DLA either?

What about if a disabled adult goes to the theatre with their partner, can they use the free carer ticket?

People caring for others do additional tasks above and beyond what normal parents/husbands/whatever do. Please don’t compare.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 22/07/2018 19:52

^^Sorry to use the word “normal” but couldn’t think of a different word.

SleepingStandingUp · 22/07/2018 20:40

@AgentJohnson what word gymnastics am I meant to be playing?

OP posts:
SleepingStandingUp · 22/07/2018 20:47

user139328237 few people would get their child in free then use a career rocket because comparatively few people have a child receiving high rate dla

OP posts:
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/07/2018 20:50

Yes OP’s son is disabled. A quick AS proves that

Thanks for confirming Fairy In that case absolutely the OP should also get in free, irrespective of how the child's ticket is paid for (or not paid for).

MrsJayy · 22/07/2018 20:52

As a carer I thought you needed to be claiming carers allowance to get in as carer?

No not at all if the person can prove disability you can get a carer entry some places are stricter than others and don't need specific prove I usually have a letter or my blue badge.

Oaft @ posters quizing the op about her sons cirumstances Hmm

Eliza9917 · 22/07/2018 20:54

I think it's rather cheeky to expect a free carer ticket for a 3 year old in the vast majority of circumstances really as able bodied 3 year olds can hardly visit alone (as I see free carer tickets as a reasonable adjustment to allow those who couldn't visit alone due to disability (rather than age) to visit at the same price as anyone else). However I imagine in the case of major attractions owned by multimillion pound companies would allow a carer to enter free of charge with a tesco ticket if they would allow the same on normal tickets.

they are also offered due to the extra financial costs that disability brings 🙄

Eliza9917 · 22/07/2018 20:57

I think I misunderstood the op, is the child not disabled? If not you are being very very unreasonable to try to take advantage of the carer ticket, it's things like this that make things even harder for actual disabled ppl FFS.

MrsJayy · 22/07/2018 21:01

Yes he is disabled

SleepingStandingUp · 22/07/2018 21:16

Why the he'll would I be buying a disabled ticket if my child wasn't disabled?? What is wrong with people that they'd even think that.
Yeah, I shove plastic tubes over his face and up his nose for shits and giggles and the gastrostomy tube is cello taped on.

Thank you for all the kind and supportive messages from posters who didn't assume I was going to play dress up with my kid to look like he had a disability just to get in cheap.
