To sell a voucher I won in a charity raffle?

Last week I won a £30 voucher in a charity raffle for a local hairdresser. I won't use it as even with the discount it would work out £40 more expensive than my normal hairdresser who I'm happy with.
Would it be unreasonable to put it on a Facebook selling site for £25? My mum and best friend won't use it either (due to the same reasons as me). My other option would be to donate it as a raffle prize for a different charity event, but the cash would be very welcome at the moment Blush

I donated £85 + a hamper to the event so more than the voucher is worth if that makes any difference.

Why would you donate an £85 hamper if you're short of cash?

DaanSaaf · 22/07/2018 16:40

Sorry, and a hamper!

Anya278 · 22/07/2018 16:42

You could sell it but I'd maybe try offering it to a friend first in case the salon see the Facebook post and make use of it difficult.

It is a bit odd that you'd donate so much to the raffle in that circumstance.

Sounds fine to me. Word the ad in a very 'grateful' tone, like 'this lovely voucher I was lucky enough to win but regrettably can't use...' so you don't sound mercenary, and go for it.

sonjadog · 22/07/2018 16:42

I don’t see the problem with selling it, but I would offer it for less. I wouldn’t be interested in a voucher that just gave me 5 pounds off. Not worth the hassle of buying and collecting it.

Clionba · 22/07/2018 16:44

You donated £85 and a hamper, but really need £25? I don't get it.

CakesAreGreat · 22/07/2018 17:14

I stretched myself with how much I could donate and used all my spare cash for the month that I usually use for doing anything social as it's for a terminally ill child. (Obviously made sure bills etc are paid Smile) so I'm not going into debt don't worry.
It's just a shame that the voucher goes to waste.
It's probably easier to just give it to another raffle.

You paid for your raffle ticket, so any prize is yours to do with what you like.

Clionba · 22/07/2018 17:48

Oh right. Your voucher, do what you want to, you've supported the charity well.

KittyHawke80 · 22/07/2018 17:57

I think you can, but I’d agree with sonja - I don’t think you’ll get many takers with a fiver off, although I may be wrong. As you say, it’ll only represent a discount at a fairly fancy place, so the demographic to which you’re appealing are likely to be clients in the first place, and are unlikely to fall over themselves for a fiver off. There’s a woman on a selling site in my village who constantly bumps a bloody (ghastly) boys jacket: I’m desperate to tell her that, when a jacket costs 50 quid new in JD Sports, selling it for 40 when her son has outgrown it after nearly two years of wear, is next-level insane.

CakesAreGreat · 22/07/2018 17:59

Haha kitty, yeh I can't believe some of the stuff being sold on the selling sites. I hadn't thought of it like that though, but you're right about the demographics.

Can you not use the voucher towards a hair treatment or something that costs the value of the voucher?

Hellywelly10 · 22/07/2018 18:01

I would just leave it op.

NailsNeedDoing · 22/07/2018 18:04

The hairdresser might stock products you like and let you spend the voucher on those.

C2205 · 22/07/2018 18:04

I'd either donate it to another fundraiser or sell it and donate the money!
Just because you donated £85 + a hamper doesn't give justification for selling it to get some money back because you're short of cash now!
I've organised fundraisers and had vouchers given back to be used again as the winner wouldn't use it.

CakesAreGreat · 22/07/2018 18:05

Bezm there's literally nothing on the price list under £30 Shock I think a mens cut starts at £33.

Theres actually an app for selling vouchers on. Cnt remember the name though. Worth looking up.

CakesAreGreat · 22/07/2018 18:09

C2205, yeh I get what you're saying. The idea didn't sit quite comfortably with me for some reason hence asking for opinions on here.
Another poster has had a great idea about using it to buy products though. Even if it just gets me a bottle of posh shampoo which I can enjoy using.

Money is tight

And yet donated £85 + a hamper to the event so more than the voucher is worth if that makes any difference.

Odd
