Pots and pans

We have always had shitty student type pots and pans. Obviously that’s the reason my cooking is so shit.

We want to get a new set but my head is spinning. We need a frying pan, big, medium and small pot and a wok at the very least.

Do you have any that you were impressed by? Any you would recommend? Copper, aluminium or what.

I’ve got a Circulon frying pan - it’s brilliant - really good non-stick, cooks everything nicely and even goes in the dishwasher.

HildaZelda · 21/07/2018 21:53

I've got Circulon and Le Creuset stuff, but all bought from TK Maxx or outlet stores, so cost a lot less.

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/07/2018 21:55

Circulon. Also some Judge stainless steel.

AnneLovesGilbert · 21/07/2018 21:56

I love my non stick tefal pans. They do sets on groupon and I got a 32cm frying pan to match off amazon and a big frying pan with sides and a lid to match from tk maxx which is a thing of beauty and usefulness!

They’re the easiest thing ever to clean and sturdy but not heavy. I like le creuset stuff but it’s too heavy for my weak wrists Sad

PoshPenny · 21/07/2018 21:57

I have le creuset pans used almost daily that are about 30 years old and still going strong. I used to buy one each month or so from John Lewis. They've been worth every penny!

Shoppingwithmother · 21/07/2018 21:58

Yes, I’ve got Le Creuset saucepans - I really like them too. You do really have to use plastic utensils with them as a eg metal masher scratches them to buggery though.

TheWoollybacksWife · 21/07/2018 21:59

I've got a set of Le Creuset stainless steel saucepans, plus a lidded large frying pan and a stockpot/steamer. They are 11 years old and are still perfect. They go in the dishwasher but will also scrub up well with a Brillo pad if needs be.

DriftwoodFascinator · 21/07/2018 22:00

I'm gradually replacing all my old cheapie pans with Staub ones - not cheap, but probably cheaper than buying new cheap ones constantly, if that makes sense!

crispysausagerolls · 21/07/2018 22:00

Another vote for le creuset!

RabbitsAreTasty · 21/07/2018 22:01

Everything I've bought from Procook has been fine.

MerlinsScarf · 21/07/2018 22:02

We had a Tefal set for absolutely ages, the stainless steel ones. I think it included a frying pan and 3 or 4 pots.

We had to replace them but only after more than 15 years, and we often use a few pots per dinner so they were in fairly constant use. They always cleaned up very well too.

I think they were about £45 altogether but obviously that was a while ago.

Storminateapot · 21/07/2018 22:04

Mine are Prestige with copper bottoms. Had them 30 years, still going strong and you don't need to be a weightlifter to pick them up.

I do get through non-stick fry pans like billy-o though and I have a lovely big non-stick chefs pan from Lakeland.

FindoGask · 21/07/2018 22:04

I have mostly mid priced stainless steel pans - two big stock pots, two medium and two smaller pans. Most of these are used daily and have lasted for ages. I did have a le Crueset frying pan for about 25 years but I didn't look after it very well and it accumulated so many layers of carbon that in the end I chucked it - since then I've been using a copper bottom frying pan from Sainsburys that cost about £30 and is brilliant.

Had an Analon griddle pan but again didn't look after it very well and it's pretty gubbed now (maybe 15 years old) - bought a ceramic one and am getting on well with that.

shoofly · 21/07/2018 22:08

We got a set of Stellar stainless steel pans for a wedding present, 16 years ago and they're as good as new. Also have a big stainless steel stock pot from ikea, a circulon non stick wok from tk maxx which is more than 12 years old ( I was pg with ds1 when I bought it) and a cheapy tefal non stick pan from Tesco which is great and newish (2 ? Years old) we have some le creuset as well but it hurts my wrists to lift

Whitecurrents · 21/07/2018 22:08

Green Pan are great, non-stick but ceramic so no toxins www.greenpan.co.uk/ John Lewis sells some of the range.

JaceLancs · 21/07/2018 22:08

Circulon everything here - lasts years and the odd one that hasn’t I have had replaced under their lifetime guarantee
Try outlet stores, debenhams sometimes have a starter set on offer and even eBay
Also sign up with circulon themselves for sale and outlet offers

RubaDubMum89 · 21/07/2018 22:11

My tefal frying pan has just been binned (sob) this week after 14 years with me and 5 years with my nan before me. A worthy investment I'd say 😁

jellomello · 21/07/2018 22:20

Le Creuset set, inherited from my mother and grandmother. It just works although scrambled eggs are a nightmare to clean afterwards!

I then have a non-stick wok and a tiny non-stick frying pan.

ThePrioryGhost · 21/07/2018 22:21

I have some Prestige with copper bottoms and some le creuset ones; all are brilliant. You can get bargains on eBay, but the older ones might not be dishwasher proof, so make sure you check if that’s important to you

SoShinySoChrome · 21/07/2018 22:39

Thanks all. I will get googling. Dishwasher friendly is essential.

I gave away all my Le Creuset. I just couldn’t lift them safely as they were so heavy when filled.

possumgoddess · 22/07/2018 09:22

My Mum gave me a very expensive non stick Le Creuset large frying pan with lid. It is not cast iron, it is stainless steel. It is very heavy , takes ages to heat up (we have a halogen hob) and the non stick isn't particularly non stick. So I wouldn't recommend one of those. It makes me sad 😢 as I know she wanted it to be my trying pan for life and she spent a fortune on getting me exactly what I wanted - on paper - and I hate it and use one I bought in Sainsburys.

LongSummerDays · 22/07/2018 09:30

We have Judge here. No problems at all.

www.wayfair.co.uk/kitchenware-tableware/pdx/meyer-select-stainless-steel-6-piece-cookware-set-umy1238.html

I have this set and they are absolutely fabulous. Really good price as well as I paid £180ish for mine a few years ago and that was in the sale! Just bought a separate wok.

AnnaMagnani · 22/07/2018 09:39

I have some fake Le Creuset from Lidl. I use it more than my real Le Creuset Grin
