A parking one!

On the school run earlier. Absolutely manic as it was the last day and I think lots of parents were collecting year 6's for the last time.

Went round and round local roads & church car park/pub car park (who allow parking for parents) and there was nothing. Zilch. Cars dumped all over the place.

Anyway, I found a kerb to pull up on it. It was in front of a semi detached house. I WASN'T parked across a dropped kerb, but a raised one. I was parked in front of flower beds & gravel.

As I got out, a man came over and told me to move. I apologised and said it isn't a dropped kerb. He told me someone was coming home and was going to park on the gravel and I had to move, be courteous etc. I moved as I didn't want a fight, though told him he was wrong.

AIBU? I was obviously collecting from school and this was at 3.12 when they come out at 3.15. I was back at my car by 3.20!

Thanks

Also to add, we moved house and kept the kids at the school so I'm unable to walk there. It's about 3 miles away, so always have the car.

YANBU. It's a shame you didn't park there. Was he intimidating?

Notthemessiah · 20/07/2018 16:21

Obviously he's wrong. I'd probably have moved too though to avoid confrontation (plus I'd be concerned what he would do to my car if I left it).

nervousnails · 20/07/2018 16:22

Maybe he is fed up of parents parking in front of his house.

LisaDav · 20/07/2018 16:25

I don't think you're in the wrong at all! I have a similar issue with my mums neighbour when I go and visit, I park on the road (no double yellows) and she comes out to have ago all the time.

It's a public road, and not private parking, therefore you're entitled to park there. X

WarPigeon · 20/07/2018 16:27

They own a house near a school and I you are parked legally, laugh and walk away.

Ha ha thank you all! You've made me feel better :)

I think even if there isn't a dropped kerb, if it's clearly being used as a drive, it would be silly to park there.

MIL lives in a street of terraced houses in SE London and most of the houses have cars. Some have dropped kerbs. Some don't but still park their cars in their drives/gardens. I would not park in front of them.

OP you said it was gravel and flower beds, but if you'd got there and the car was already there, would you have parked there then?

sunnnyscotland · 20/07/2018 18:02

No dropped kerb not right of car access. But I would have moved in case car had an accident while I was gone.

Notthemessiah · 20/07/2018 20:14

Maybe he is fed up of parents parking in front of his house.

Then he shouldn't have bought a house near a school.

happypoobum · 20/07/2018 20:24

I wouldn't have moved. Stupid man.
