Hello clever people!

Blatantly posting here for traffic. Is anyone clever about hose pipes?!

Here are pictures of my tap, before and after screwing the end off. The tap diameter (after end bit removed) is 21mm....

I want to get an expanding hose pipe (3rd pic) but they have threaded brass bits to connect to the tap (won’t fit my tap). Male, female, I don’t know ....

What the hell sort of adaptor do I need? I plastic one with a jubilee clip won't work will it?!

This one from Screwfix will probably do it. It has an adjustable clip so should fit on taps slightly smaller than 24 mm.

There are several that are supposed to fit "standard" threaded kitchen taps but their "standard" sizes are all different. Is yours actually 3/4" rather than 21 mm?

Skiiltan · 20/07/2018 14:47

Ah. Sorry. Ignore me. I didn't look at your last picture. I assumed you were using Hozelock fittings. You'll need a couple of separate adapters to connect that one: it'll be a bit Heath-Robinson.

Thanks ! I've worked out which 1 I need, both hoselock ones. Smile

JulianOfNorwich · 20/07/2018 18:20

Can you post photos when you get it working???
I too have struggled with this issue. Sad to say but I have come close to tears with the frustration of it all.... and then having to spend an hour traipsing around with a heavy watering can....
I got an adjustable hose attachment but it barely grips the tap. Sometimes I can't attach it to the tap at all. Sometimes it stays on for 10 mins so long as I keep the water pressure super low. Other times it flies off the end of the tap-and sprays water all over my kitchen in the process. It's doing my nut in.
Should I just buy a new tap??????

These are the ones I am getting (pics)

On the Screwfix website there are 24mm and 18mm connectors and if you click on the 'specifications' section, it tells you diameter of the product. The 24mm has a product diameter of 67mm and the 18mm connector has a product diameter of 60mm so I think it'd be best to measure your tap and order accordingly.

handslikecowstits · 20/07/2018 20:14

You'll need a jubilee clip whichever one you buy.

Tomboytown · 20/07/2018 20:17

No, don't get that one

Tomboytown · 20/07/2018 20:21

I just did this and I got that one with the clip and it still wouldn't fit over

Try this one
There's 2 different size threads

I needed to unscrew the end ( about 1cm) off my kitchen tap- I had no idea you could even do this. Then I could screw on a standard Hozelock 24mm adaptor.
Now I'm having trouble at the other end of my hose... I bought a Hozelock spray gun but when I got it home, it became apparent, i need something extra to actually attach it to my hosepipe.
But I have no idea what I need??? Some sort of connector??? Why didn't they include it with the spray gun? You can't use the spray gun without it. So annoying.
Back to the DIY store AGAIN tomorrow.
Why is it so difficult? Does it really have to be like this?????
