To really want to send this letter?

So, backstory is that we have sold our house and have had an offer accepted and exchange date agreed on another. Seeking to have missives concluded (Scotland) on our purchase for past 3 1/2 weeks. Sellers lawyers have been assuring that all is in hand and they would conclude asap.

On Tue of this week their lawyer contacts to say the sellers have not found anywhere yet (they will be renting!) and won't agree to our original date - which is in 2 weeks! We have concluded on our sale so we are out of here on that date and can't change without massive financial penalty. Sellers wanted 'open ended' entry date. We have refused and have said we want financial recompense and a fixed date as we will be out ££££. Refused. Finally got them to agree to a date in 8 weeks' time. We are effectively homeless for 6 of those with two small children.

To add insulation to injury, they sent lawyers an email to say they would be willing to sell two pieces of furniture (that we had expressed an interest in) to us for £700!!!

AIBU to want to instruct my lawyer to send them a letter to say 'shove it up your arse and I hope your next shite is a hedgehog?'

Just needed a huge moan!

You do a superb line in insults, OP. I'd say the least they can do is give me the furniture and ask my solicitor's advice on recompense for all the money this has cost me. House buying/selling really does bring out the worst in people.

Laineypopps · 20/07/2018 14:02

Thanks! I do try!!

Asked for the furniture and a small financial incentive and they refused. They stated they would withdraw the property from the market instead. If it wasn't our dream house, I would have walked away but nothing else we have seen comes close!

How on earth people can have such ugly values and lack of compassion/integrity is totally beyond me!

Dream house or not I'd walk away but I'm a contrary bitch.

Disquieted1 · 20/07/2018 14:06

I know you're upset, but all they've done is defend their interests.
They are not the ones who have made you homeless - they have never had that power.

Laineypopps · 20/07/2018 14:10

I am not naive, disquieted and certainly not cross at them defending their own interests, however they have been underhanded throughout the process and have made assurances that we acted upon under their instruction to lawyers. They have not been upfront and then added insult to injury by asking for a ridiculous sum of money for two second hand bed frames.

Travis, seriously considered it but we would still be in the position of nowhere else to go with no house on the horizon. I am usually quite a stubborn person so this is taking all my strength not to react in anger and tell them to whistle Dixie!!

OP I feel your pain!! Similar has happened to be in every house sale and purchase since I had kids- the first time we ended up renting for six months - haunted house !! Second time we stayed with my parents for six weeks - fortunately they had a big house and werenon holiday for two weeks hen we were away for two weeks! Third time we ended up renting a chalet bungalow with two bedrooms and one big room downstairs- 5 of us with two dogs two cats, rabbits and guinea pigs!! The final time was post separation so kids and me moved in with my parents for four weeks . Next time I AM going to be in charge of the dates 😂😂😂

Skippii · 20/07/2018 14:17

Your solicitor should have ensured both sets of missives were signed together. Every time I've moved this has been coordinated, and the solicitor has warned not to sign one before the other are also ready. It's common to sign when convenient, and your solicitor holds them until it's time.

Bluelady · 20/07/2018 14:22

£350 for a second hand bed frame? They live in fairy land. I'd want to rip their heads off, I think you're being very restrained.

SparklyBum · 20/07/2018 14:39

Fucking hell. I'd tell them to jog on (your insult was brilliant). We're about to buy, our contract in current house is done next week. We're going to an airbnb for a month or so. We have 2 young children.
The sellers should move the fuck out! Cheeky bastards. Call their bluff and tell them they can swivel.

bionicnemonic · 20/07/2018 14:40

Any chance you could 'rent' you current property (that you've just sold) from your buyer? We did this and although it was expensive it saved upheaval, offer them fair market price. May get complicated with gas certificates etc but you could take that on yourselves

Laineypopps · 20/07/2018 15:00

Skippy, this was the case and lawyers discussed over phone, had verbal instruction from other lawyers that offer was accepted and they would conclude that day, awaited written confirmation and were them met with a variety of excuses - fax machine issues, confirmation of rental, lawyer out of office etc - would never have confirmed if that wasn't the case.

OP posts:
Laineypopps · 20/07/2018 15:03

Bionic, we can't unfortunately as they are moving from rented and their notice is up. That would have been better case scenario.

I agree, £350 is a kick in the teeth!! Would rather spend £2000 on new ones than give them another penny! Dicks!

Sorry, Skippii, not Skippy. Bloody autocorrect!

Sounds like a total nightmare. We had 5 weeks between sale/purchase but managed to stay in a friends house he rents out, as it was free for the summer. The removal company stored most of our belongings, but it was a lot of hassle, and I wouldn't do it again.

If you want to be really shitty to them you could wait until the want to conclude missives and drop the price.

Or find somewhere else and not tell them until they want to conclude.
