Okay, posting for traffic, sorry, but somebody on here HAS to have read it.

Mum lent it to me years and years ago before it got tossed in the charity pile or shipped off to a friend to read who never gave it back Grin all I remember really was:

It was called something like Fields of Gold (not by Sting) and was about maybe an old cotton/silk mill and a girl who worked in it?
She ended up getting pregnant by some man she was maybe in love with but shouldn't be in love with. It was probably a bit twee but good god I've been trying to remember what it's called for the better part of 8 years.

Was it a Catherine Cookson do you reckon?

Catherine Cookson rings a bell, but I looked through her list and I think it was more recent than 2000 - maybe!

I can't believe textile mill fiction is a genre. I'm browsing now!

Phillips Gregory's favoured child?

SkaPunkPrincess · 20/07/2018 08:54

Philippa not Phillips 😂

itsbritneybeyatch · 20/07/2018 08:56

It sounds like a Lesley (Leslie?) Pearce book I read a while back but I could be wrong!

Cherrygardenst · 20/07/2018 09:07

Emmeline by Judith Rossner

The Mill Girl by Rosie Goodwin

?

Mouseylu · 20/07/2018 09:09

I think it may be by Iris Gower who wrote Spinners Wharf

madvixen · 20/07/2018 09:10

Was it Paupers Gold by Margaret Dickinson? It sounds like it but it's a while since I read it

I love that there’s a category called Textile Mill Fiction. I reckon my grandma has all 95 of those titles on her bookshelf.

Littledidsheknow · 20/07/2018 09:13

Sorry, can help with the name of the book, but am laughing at "Textile mill fiction" being a recognised literary genre Grin. It's kind of a bit.... niche!

ScreamingValenta · 20/07/2018 09:25

I'm fairly sure I've read this and it's 'Pauper's Gold' - at some point I think they run away from the mill and try to find their mum.

princesstiasmum · 20/07/2018 09:29

I was hoping someone was going to say TONGA! TONGA! If anyone remembers that thread.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 20/07/2018 16:19

fluffiphlox

I blame the princess / queen of Tonga you know!

fluffiphlox · 20/07/2018 16:21

It was so funny wasn’t it? Such a pity it got zapped.

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/07/2018 16:21

And this is why I love Mumsnet Grin

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 20/07/2018 16:21

I absolutely love that “textile mill fiction” is a genre!

ConkerTriumphant · 20/07/2018 18:06

So I went down the Catherine Cookson rabbit hole today because of this thread.
How the fuck is she having a book released in September?!!
