Dogs should be on leads.

My back gate is broken and my kitchen door is open. It’s hot and I’m up. Two bloody dogs just ran in my house. Second time this has happened this summer. AIBU to think dogs should be on leads not running around the streets. I live on a council estate, my neighbours seem to think they’re living on a bloody farm. Irresponsible dog owners give me rage.

They certainly shouldn't be loose and out of control - on a council estate, or a farm!

Canshopwillshop · 19/07/2018 22:39

I’m a dog owner and I agree that they shouldn’t be running loose on the street. They shouldn’t be coming on to your property, they could frighten some kids, they could cause an accident.

HoleyCoMoley · 19/07/2018 22:40

you can report dogs coming onto your property to the council.

WhoWants2Know · 19/07/2018 22:43

There are some trigger happy farmers out my way who would quickly take care of any dogs running loose onto their property

wonderstuff · 19/07/2018 22:44

Can’t see the council doing much to be honest. I shouted. Might write a strongly worded letter to the parish newsletter. Or just quietly seethe all night.

Dogs shouldn’t be running about loose. Is it a front door your leaving open or a back or side door? Do you not have a garden and hedge or fence? Personally I wouldn’t leave our front door open but I always have the patio doors open at the rear of the house especially in this heat.
My neighbours dog as a puppy kept breaking through the hedge between ours and theirs it camein our garden several times and our house once. Now we have replaced the hedge with fence.

Maybe a trip to the village gun shop!! Grin (joking).

YANBU if they're running into people's homes they definitely need to be on leads!

wonderstuff · 19/07/2018 22:49

Back door, but our house is off road (70s architecture all footpaths and no drives) so front door isn’t really any different. We back on to fields and a couple of neighbours don’t leash their dogs between their house and the fields. Bloody annoying. I’ll fix the gate tomorrow.

YADNBU

DesignStatement · 19/07/2018 22:52

Yes ~ dogs should be on leads. There should be designated or defined areas where that is not required, but not in a built up area or area with many people around.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 19/07/2018 23:21

Um... I'm not surprised dogs are loose on fields. That's a bit different to running around the streets. Would fixing your gate sort the problem?

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 19/07/2018 23:25

I wouldn’t have s problem with dogs being loose in a field, they need to be run off a lead.

Technically, YANBU, but in this instance, it’s more your gate that’s at fault.

AmazingPostVoices · 19/07/2018 23:27

Yes they should.

The same dog has run into my house twice, jumping in to the sofa with muddy paws.

I’ve never been able to identify the owner so they must be walking a long way behind their off the lead dog.

wonderstuff · 20/07/2018 00:17

I don’t live in a field! I’m in a mid terrace on a council estate, my neighbours garden backs on to field.

Oh good, made it just in time for the weekly dog thread!

SarcasticFringehead · 21/07/2018 00:08

Definitely take the time to complain to the council. They need to be aware, else things don't change.
