To tell him to go to A&E?

Just got these pics through from a friend. He thinks he was bitten by a snake at an outdoor theatre event tonight. Two puncture wounds that bled, hand is now tingling and swelling. I'm usually very chilled with health things but looking at that (and after a quick google) told him to get himself off to A&E. He's dithering...any snake bite experts out there?

To tell him to go to A&E?

Convinced him to go...phew! He said he was sat leaning on his arms behind him and then felt a sharp pain and screamed so loud he made a bit of a commotion & felt silly. So obviously he did the British thing and quietened down, waited for it to end proceeded to buy yet more shit for his tea and consume it before sending me pictures...Daft bugger he is. He's promised to keep me updated so I will of course report back.

Obviously didn’t affect his appetite 😂😂. Hope he is ok and it’s nothing too serious.

SirVixofVixHall · 19/07/2018 22:58

Adder bites can cause all sorts of issues including tissue necrosis. Good that he is getting seen. Where was he bitten ? ( geographically )

Hawkie · 19/07/2018 23:03

Snakes wouldn't normally stick around in large crowds of people...

Glad he is being seen.

0AliasGrace0 · 19/07/2018 23:07

East Midlands. He now can't bend his arm. Fortunately he took my advice about not driving so is in a taxi. He should be there very shortly but is now arguing with me via WhatsApp... I am ignoring the argument and putting it down to stress and potential venom affecting his cognition actually want to tell him to fuck off.

It does look like a snake bite, but snakes are actually very timid, and will move away from people, that’s why it’s important to make noise if walking through undergrowth, so that snakes make themselves sssssscarce.

Had he moved away from the crowd of people? Anyway, he should go to A&E to make sure he is ok.

SirVixofVixHall · 19/07/2018 23:15

I’ve seen adder bites and it looks like one to me. Adders are shy and try to get away if they sense you, but perhaps it had been basking and then got surrounded by people.( I live in an area where adders are prevalent, my dog and other dogs I know have been bitten). The swelling is likely to increase, and he may then have problems with the tissue around the bite, or up his arm, over the next few days. Possibly they will give him the anti venom in A and E, but it is more likely to be treated supportively. Adder bites can get very painful, I hope he is ok.

Butterflycookie · 19/07/2018 23:15

A&E was definitely the right decision!

kateandme · 19/07/2018 23:17

lots of snakes and cross breeding problems now in this country so even the ones we think aren't a problem can be.he must get this seen.

OnlyBaBaBiss · 19/07/2018 23:18

Am I the only one who never knew we had snakes in this country?!
Obviously I know people have them as pets, but I never thought for one second I might be bit by a snake just sitting in a park or something ShockShockShock

BlueCardOnAShelf · 19/07/2018 23:22

Omg that doesn't sound good

Storminamug · 19/07/2018 23:24

I like that he finished his pudding first!

Hawkmoth · 19/07/2018 23:27

My mum saw a snake yesterday. I was a bit jealous. Now not so much.

LoniceraJaponica · 19/07/2018 23:30

"Am I the only one who never knew we had snakes in this country?!"

I know we have adders, but I have never seen one. There was a grass snake in next door's compost heap a few years ago. It was quite a big one.

There are no snakes in Ireland BTW.

He's being seen to now. Very good at A&E as soon as he presented himself he was treated as a priority. He's told me to go to sleep as he thinks he'll be awhile. He did get melodramatic and asked if he was going to die. I reassured him he wouldn't will he?? and I think another friend has gone to meet him there so I'm going to get some kip. Glad I persisted with nagging him and thanks for all the info, I'll update tomorrow.

Bloody hell Shock

Well done for getting him to seek help

Cantthinkofabloodyname · 19/07/2018 23:45

I'm glad he has gone to get it looked at, as the bites can often lead to infection. It is very often quite a shock feeling to be bitten by a snake but not normally too painful afterwards. I have been bitten before by one of my snakes when he was a tad grumpy.

OftenHangry · 19/07/2018 23:54

They rarely just attack, but there vould have been younglings nearby. Now it's about the time the give birth.
We used to see lots of them where I grew up (Central Europe).

LEMtheoriginal · 19/07/2018 23:59

Blatant place marking for update. Ouchie

OftenHangry · 20/07/2018 00:01

*could have been younglings. God it is too late for me🙄

aliasjoey · 20/07/2018 00:03

OnlyBa

You’re not going to come across an adder in a park, most people never see one.

Adders are relatively common in areas of rough, open countryside and are often associated with woodland edge habitats. It is more common in South Wales and southern England.

Littlechocola · 20/07/2018 00:04

Ouch!

Barbaro · 20/07/2018 00:04

Glad he got seen. I've only ever been bitten by a king snake but it was a pet and only left two small pin pricks in my finger, nothing else. Saw an adder when I was younger too, a wild one that is.
