To feel put out?

Next weekend my son is away with his dad all weekend so I'm child free. My dp of a year is taking his kids away camping for the weekend (they don't live with him and are going on holiday on the Monday with ther mum). I suggested I visit one day for a few hours to spend some time with them. He said he was planning a 'daddy daughter weekend'. AIBU to feel a bit upset at this? I understand he needs alone time with them but I was only suggesting half a day out of all the weekend. We had a good time together last Saturday afternoon so I really thought he'd be up for this.

He may have promised his kids, or he may just want that time with his kids. YANBU to feel put out, but he is NBU to decline your request.

Try not to be upset. You will have a much better relationship with them in the long term if they always get plenty of time with their dad without you.

Yabu.

Half a day out of a weekend away is a pretty big chunk of it

PitterPatterOfBigFeet · 19/07/2018 21:04

I can totally understand your feelings but I don't think he is BU. He has probably sold this weekend as a special daddy-daughter time and he may feel it's just not the right time to involve his partner too.

Pengggwn · 19/07/2018 21:04

He only has the weekend. Half a day out of that is a huge chunk of time, and it's perfectly reasonable for him to want his kids to have some time (a weekend) where they are his only focus.

Yabu to be upset that your dp wants some alone time with his daughter.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 19/07/2018 21:12

Sorry but I think YABU. They don't live with him so this time away is precious. Don't make him feel bad.

If you end up living together. A free weekend will be utter gold. Use the time and spend it exactly how you want to.

Buzz I never said that I was upset that he wants to spent some alone time with his daughters!!! Why are you making this into something it isn't!!?? Read the thread properly if you are going to comment.

Everyone else...thanks for your input. I haven't made him feel bad. All I've said is that I was only suggesting a few hours and that It will probably be a while until we have the opportunity again. He did then say that we can do something together in the holidays.
