I think there's bees under my patio...

Posting for traffic. Not sure what to do.

My decking/patio sits on a concrete slab. A bit of it has crumbled away at some point and for the past few days I have spotted (only just now connecting the dots) the odd bee flying in and out of there.

There's no buzzing or anything under the patio but as I'm sat here I've noticed 2-3 bees at a time fly out of the hole usually shortly followed by 2-3 bees flying back like they're taking turns.

There's also some knocking about the garden.

Should I be worried? And what can I possibly do?

Just leave them alone and they’ll leave you alone. Please don’t kill them as they’re endangered.

Are they bumble bees or regular bees? What size are they?

blackbirdbluebottle · 19/07/2018 15:23

Don’t leave them alone, you can ring free people from the council or other local people will often come out for free and move them on elsewhere

They are nothing to worry about. My daughter has some ground nesting bees in her garden. She spoke to pest control and all they said was they would destroy the hive and charge her lots for the privilege. She has 7 year old twins and so far no one has been stung. They do have to do bee rescue from the swimming pool every day though.

These bees only stay in one nest for the summer. They will die and not return to your garden.

Ooo there are ground bees that do this. There won’t be a massive nest of loads of them just a few. I read up as had a similar thing. They will stay and then move on and I don’t think they sting or they are very docile.

LuluJakey1 · 19/07/2018 15:42

We had a bee nest. They moved away on Monday.

I had an underground nest of them. There will only be a handful of them. They won't be there long.

Ground feeling bees are the bomb. They’re nosy, and fabulous.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 19/07/2018 15:48

Dwelling. Ground dwelling.

We have had a nest at our back door for the past few weeks - absolutely no problems despite us being in and out all the time and the back door being beside the patio. In fact, we are really enjoying watching them. Please leave them alone and don't try to get rid of the nest. Bees need all the help they can get, and we need their help pollinating our food crops!

gamerchick · 19/07/2018 15:49

Just leave them alone, they won't bother you and will be gone soon anyway.

Cismyass · 19/07/2018 16:13

We had a visit from ground nesting bees next to DD(4)'s paddling pool. No bother at all even with noisy splashy kids about. I felt very sad when they left.

MrsAidanTurner · 19/07/2018 16:45

Same we have one in our decking, it's lovely to see the going in and out, they won't harmful you or come at you lie wasps..

MTBMummy · 19/07/2018 16:48

They sound like ground nesting bees, just leave them alone and they won't bother you, we've had them in various houses since DD (8) was born and she's never been stung

Nikephorus · 19/07/2018 16:53

You can just block the hole up (after they've flown out) - shove a bit of paper in it, that's all you need. They'll go elsewhere.
