Posting for traffic sorry if it doesn't fit

DP ordered a new laptop - £1k, and then found it cheaper elsewhere. They told us to refuse the delivery.

I didn't realise this and accepted the parcel (signed for it) and then realised who it was from. Chased the chap down the street and said I was to refuse it and can he take it back.

He never changed the signature or anything and said it was fine, then took the laptop back.

It's obvious what it is cos the brand was on the box!

Have I made a grave error?! What do i do now?! Just realised he could say I've signed for it which I have, and just keep it!!

Arghh I'm so stupid! Now DP is going mad at me and I have no idea what to do!

Well DP should be sorting it out himself then shouldn't he.

TheViceOfReason · 19/07/2018 14:17

Yes you've made a grave error and been pretty daft.

Either the guy will be honest and return it, or he will keep it and it's your word against his. But given that you've signed for it....

For future.... when you've ordered something like a laptop (ie a standard non-personalised product) online you can return for any reason with 14 days of receipt.

itsallgravybaby · 19/07/2018 14:35

I know, it was just one of those split second decisions and now I see it was the wrong one and it should have just been taken in store!

That's exactly what I said, he should have answered the door Angry

And to top it off the consignment number works when tracking but not on any of the automated contact us forms so I can't even tell them what's happened! 😭😭

Call / email / message the office. Should it become your word against his then it is balance of probability and not beyond reasonable doubt so this would strengthen your case.

Also, should the delivery guy be dishonest, I'd have thought that someone asking for it immediately is likely to have them chicken out of theft and hand it over.

You'll need to cross your fingers a little but I like to think the best of people and suspect you'll be ok.

@pinkyredrose

There's always one isn't there. Do you never help people? If you do and mess up, do you just tell them to sort it out themselves? You sound like an

pinkyredrose · 19/07/2018 14:44

Yes i do help people. But if they 'go mad' at me when I've tried to help them I'd just let them get on with it alone.

itsallgravybaby · 19/07/2018 14:51

Thanks @gunnyBear

It's the WORST contact us, if you can't put a number in they just cut you off, and it won't accept the number arghhh.

I've resorted to tweeting. Hoping they will see it's an honest mistake. I also have CCTV but it won't cover cos I went to far away from the house *kicks self repeatedly

But I have mentioned the CCTV just in case! It at least shows me run out and return 10 secs later with no parcel

"It at least shows me run out and return 10 secs later with no parcel"

Again, this could (probably won't) come down to balance of probability. You can relax!

itsallgravybaby · 24/07/2018 15:53

So it turns out they can't do anything as the CCTV doesn't show me handing the parcel back and there's nothing to prove I didn't give it to someone else out of shot and are trying to scam them. Ffs 😭

HoneyBadgerApparently · 24/07/2018 16:10

Is the guy saying you didn't return it?

mononoaware1907 · 24/07/2018 16:23

So what did the guy actually say? Jesus, OP, so sorry.
