To wonder how GAP keep afloat?

I went in yesterday. Bought a couple of bits that were massively reduced. Denim jacket for £14 from £56 plus theres always a discount code on the phone. The clothes are ok if you want the odd piece but i wouldnt buy a full outfit there. They have huge reductions to me it seems 24/7 how do they keep going? I much prefer Old Navy their even cheaper version. How come that never came to the UK.

My sister even stops me ftom buying my nephew things from there despite the 4o% off because of the logo been everwhere.

Where did Gap go wrong? It used to be the highlight of a US holiday in the early 90's.

I buy lots of my kids clothes from there. Particularly like their girls Star Wars t-shirts etc. Can't always get them elsewhere. Have never bought any adult clothes though.

I love Gap...had some lovely clothes from there, nice t-shirts with lace inserts, couple of lovely dresses and skirts.

We have a Gap outlet near us and I find it so confusing. Everything has multiple price stickers on plus some have random shelf edges with extra % off here there and everywhere.

The mannequins on the stands are wearing clothes they dont stock.

They have no underwear or sleepwear.

They have a Sale Rail; even though the whole store is reduced anyways.

Their sizing is all off.

I go in with good intentions, what I do like Ive no idea til I get to the till how much it actually costs. Their staff dont engage with anyone or any product they just stand and chat amongst themselves.

Its all so confusing.

I went to canada recently and blocked out a morning for shopping in gap and old navy. Ive never been so dissappointed in my life! The tshirts were see through, there wasnt anything that I wanted. I got one tshirt in old navy and a pair of shorts in gap.

Did you not see the awful documentary ( on panorama or some such programme a few years ago ) about their use of sweatshops and the conditions their workers endured

Dont know if things have improved but the answer is they make massive profits at the expense of the poor. That is how they stay in business like many others i guess.

The jeans, tops and children clothes are great. Dont see a problem they better than lots of other shops..cough..joules..

EachandEveryone · 20/07/2018 22:20

Do they still have cool ads with A listers promoting them? I cant say ive seen any for years. In the early 90's they were respected.

I always wonder this too.

I won’t be surprised if they announce difficulties in the UK arm soon. Discounts are too frequent and too heavy to be credible for a viable business.....

AveEldon · 20/07/2018 23:02

I think their designs have gone downhill
Even the logo stuff is super fussy now

Lots of stuff 30% off plus 5% off with the phone app - then I was given a £30 off for next week (minimum £60 spend)

EachandEveryone · 24/07/2018 11:27

I got ripped off using a voucher code and discount the other day. In a way I can’t even blame the staff it’s all so confusing

I'd almost forgotten about Gap. I used to buy a lot of stuff there, but they closed both the city branch and the retail park one in our city, so unless I go to the outlet malls 20+ miles away, I'd have to look online and I don't like shopping online for clothes due to sizing/returns etc.

They seem to buy into the 'price high but always offer discounts' model and I CBA with all that shit. And there's just too much stuff to wade through on their website.

dinosaurkisses · 24/07/2018 12:06

I love Gap! I usually just wear jeans and a t shirt, and I’ve always found the stuff to be decent quality. When they have a sale or promotion on the prices are similar to H&M etc, but it doesn’t look crap after a few washes.

I also like the kids and baby stuff- usually some nice colours on offer other that pink or blue.
