If yes or no what’s your reason ?

Mitzimaybe · 19/07/2018 12:55

That's not an AIBU. YABU.

LardLizard · 19/07/2018 13:15

Yes it is

But you haven't posed it as an AIBU, so YABU.

LardLizard · 19/07/2018 13:21

Oh FFS! People are so ridiculous:

"AIBU to ask what your reasons are for taking or not taking HRT?"

To get the thread back on track.......

I did for some years. I was having horrific hot flushes which would happen more in stressful situations - think sitting in a job interview with sweat literally dripping off my face onto the desk in front of me. I was getting less and less sleep at night, and having to change all the bedding every day due to waking up in a pool of sweat plus alternating the pillows with spares so they could dry out properly. I was stressed, exhausted and it wasn't helping my already fragile mental health.

Cue HRT - maybe a couple of times a week having a reasonably bearable flush during the day, no more than one or two each night and not even waking up at all some nights. Reduced my stress levels considerably, which helped with my MH issues in general. Stayed on HRT for maybe 5-6 years then stopped, and I reckon it helped save my sanity.

LardLizard · 19/07/2018 15:27

Thanks allergic
How did you find it coming off them ? Did you have to do it slowly

My mother has taken it for twenty years. She says it’s what keeps her from getting a beard Grin

donajimena · 19/07/2018 15:29

I'm not menopausal just yet but its looming. I fully intend to embrace HRT Smile

Allergictoironing · 19/07/2018 15:30

Nope just stopped when I ran out & didn't ask the GP for more. I'd tried stopping a year or so earlier but kept having the bad night sweats so started again, but no "withdrawal" type symptoms at all either time.

DeadBod · 19/07/2018 15:31

There's a menopause topic which might give you more info if you're undecided about taking HRT.

blueangel1 · 19/07/2018 15:31

I've been on HRT for several years. Prior to that I was having 2-3 dozen hot flushes a day and could be triggered by as little as the body heat of someone shaking my hand in a meeting.

My sleep was completely wrecked and I was exhausted. I also had palpitations, dizzy spells and mood swings. My quality of life was awful and it's been a revelation.

DoubleNegativePanda · 19/07/2018 15:32

No, I won't be taking HRT. We have multiple cases of breast, ovarian and uterine cancer in my mother's family and have been advised by our individual doctors and a geneticist that monkeying with our hormone levels would severely increase our chances of developing a reproductive cancer. I'm getting hot flashes already and I'm really not happy about the whole situation but since my chances of cancer are already high I'll tip the scale any way I can.

EvilEdna1 · 19/07/2018 15:33

Yes. Started 4 months ago at age 45. Made a big difference to the quality of my life. ..I am sleeping properly for the first time in months. No night sweats. No frequent sense of impending doom.

bellinisurge · 19/07/2018 15:35

I tried it, it made my MS fatigue 10 times worse. So unless my gp can come up with an alternative, I'm going without.

50shadesofgreyismylaundry · 19/07/2018 15:35

I would take it. DM took it because she was concerned about osteoporosis and didn't want to suffer from that like DGM did. Mum's menopause was fairly easy and she only took HRT for a few years. My aunt swore by HRT.

PaulRuddislush · 19/07/2018 15:36

No. Took it for 3 months and no discernible improvement on menopause symptoms but normally very low blood pressure went through the roof. Didn't bother with repeat prescription.

IAmMumWho · 19/07/2018 15:39

I'm on it and have been for about 8 years now

GnomeDePlume · 19/07/2018 15:40

No, I have a blood clotting disorder for which I take variable warfarin dosages (APLS/Hughes Syndrome). I don't want to add another risk/variable into the mix.

Dumbledoresgirl · 19/07/2018 15:41

No. Because, whilst I wouldn't say I treat my body as a temple, I have had a lifelong aversion to messing around with its workings and have always avoided hormone drugs.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 19/07/2018 15:41

I certainly plan to take it in due course, unless the research opinion changes again. My plan is to start taking it when I hit menopause (assuming I get troublesome symptoms) and stop taking it when I can stop without unacceptable menopausal symptoms.

ClarkWGriswold · 19/07/2018 15:42

I think I'm menopausal and I'm only 38. I haven't been to see the doctor yet but I am very frightened of the menopause. I had a PE when I was pregnant with DD1 so won't be able to take HRT. I genuinely have no idea what my options are.

My mum also had early menopause and it was horrendous for her. She did take HRT for a short time but hated it. I just remember her being red in the face, sweaty, bad tempered and she practically doubled in size overnight. She had a hysterectomy a couple of years into menopause and was advised again to take HRT but refused. She seemed to get better quite quickly after the hysterectomy though.

Storm4star · 19/07/2018 15:42

I am trying to save it as an absolute last resort as I'm worried about the risks involved. I'm trying to do more of the things I should be doing anyway, eating healthier, more exercise and I'm taking various different vitamins. The night sweats reduced a lot when I'd been taking the vitamins for a while. Don't know if they had any influence on that, or it was just coincidence, but I can cope with those now. I seem to have good spells and bad spells, so for a while I'll think ok I feel fine. Then a couple of weeks later be thinking "I can't take it anymore". I'm not saying I definitely won't but I'm trying not to.

Storm4star · 19/07/2018 15:45

@ClarkWGriswold

Try not to worry too much. You could be totally fine. I've had symptoms but both my mum and my sister (her's was early at 40) just had their periods stop and that was that. Not one single symptom (I'm actually a bit jealous!). So you may be totally fine.
