to ask if any Dentists on here would be willing to help me?

Posting for traffic.

I recently had a batch of fillings replaced and went back to the dentist on Monday as sensitivity was preventing me eating on one side of my mouth completely. Dentist prescribed Duraphat, told me to rub on before meals, brush with it, don't rinse.

I've had a couple of days off sick (most unlike me) with a (dreadful)stomach bug and have only just realized that it probably isn't a bug at all but the fact that I'm using a product several times a day which contains sorbitol to which I am sensitive. Due to the lateness of this epiphany I can't call the surgery. Is there an alternative that will have the same effect as duraphat but is not 80% sorbitol? It is definitely improving the sensitivity as I can drink cold water without wincing but I really can't continue to take it. Thanks

Would 101 be able to help?

Not a dentist but have worked as a dental nurse. If you have toothpaste preferably sensodyne or the like that may help until you can speak to the dentist. The duraphat works by coating the exposed root of the tooth and blocking the porous area which when exposed makes you experience the sensitivity. The toothpaste if rubbed on will do the same thing but will wash off a bit quicker so may need applied a little more often. Hopefully this will help

+1 for scatterbrain advice. Night time is w good time to do it so the paste can sit on your teeth for a while.

As pp said rub on sensitive toothpaste

GahWhatever · 18/07/2018 22:26

sensitive toothpaste over the last month hasn't done the job, hence the prescription. i'll stick with OTC overnight but it isn't enough (I think she took a little too much enamel but hey ho). I'm just worried I can't find anything on BNF that will do the same job as duraphat without the sorbitol. Will call them tomorrow. Thanks anyway.
