To complain about the school photographer?

We were taking a few family photos the other day, and DH told us all to say cheese. DS (Y4) pipes up that they don't say cheese for the school photographer. I asked him what they say instead, and he said they're told to say "Girls are gorgeous".

Part of me wants to mention this to school, and another part is tempted to roll my eyes and ignore. DS said they all think it's silly, but the use of the phrase really bothers me. Would you raise it, or ignore. DH doesn't think I should be "that parent" on the last day of term, but I'm not sure I want to leave it alone (at least to check gently whether it's even true). WWYD?

I would mention to the school just to be on the safe side, that’s a bad expression to say for the photos :/

NewYearNewMe18 · 18/07/2018 14:46

You will be that parent.

StepBackNow · 18/07/2018 14:47

Just don't. Good grief.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 18/07/2018 14:47

hmmmmm… tricky one.

WarPigeon · 18/07/2018 14:50

As the teachers would have been present during the photo shoot they already know.

Bagel88 · 18/07/2018 14:50

It's just a phrase to catch their lips in the right pose for the photo.
We use, "I bought a jeeeeep" Grin

SoupDragon · 18/07/2018 14:51

It's just a phrase to catch their lips in the right pose for the photo.

I keep saying it and can’t work out which bit of the phrase puts their lips in the right pose! Cheeeese and jeeeep, yes, I get those.

SoupDragon · 18/07/2018 14:52

Unless it’s just silly and makes them smile 🤔

Ansumpasty · 18/07/2018 14:53

It makes them smile. I can’t imagine complaining about something like that Hmm

cpayne351 · 18/07/2018 14:55

They probably say the same to the girls about the boys. Its just something to make them do a cute little smile. CHEEEESE always looks so FAKE.

FarrahMoan · 18/07/2018 15:05

I would have to say something. It's an odd thing to suggest from a mixed group, even more odd if it's being asked for a solo photo. Wouldn't saying that make most 9yo's grimace anyway?

liquidrevolution · 18/07/2018 15:42

Sometimes it takes being that parent to get changes. Particularly if no one else will speak up.

As well as mentioning it to the school I would ask the school for the photographers details and complain direct.

SistersOfPercy · 18/07/2018 15:43

Every year DS brought his primary photo home he had his tongue sticking out. Took many years to figure out they were making him say cheese and he's short tongued 😂

halfwitpicker · 18/07/2018 15:47

Uh?

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 18/07/2018 15:48

They probably all went "eeeeurghh" and fell about laughing so he got a good natural smile from them all.

I just think when people say "don't sweat the small stuff" this is one of those times.

ShoesJerry · 18/07/2018 17:29

Thanks everyone: mixed responses reflecting my own uncertainty!

Massively over reacting!

SuperMoonIsKeepingMeUpToo · 18/07/2018 17:42

Really don't. You'd sound ridiculous - it's just a funny thing to make the kids laugh.
