This is satire, right?

£150 a month gym membership 😂😂

Typhers · 17/07/2018 17:50

And yes, it’s a bit silly but it may depend where you live. Where I am a reasonable ‘flat’ would only be around 100-120k I can imagine inner London is a different story.

cardibach · 17/07/2018 17:51

Jesus. That’s more than twice what I earn. She bloody should be able to save on that!

unadventuretime · 17/07/2018 17:51

She spends more on food for herself than we do on feeding a family of 4! Wtf is she eating, £10 notes?

musicposy · 17/07/2018 17:54

OMG her net salary is double ours and her rent and bills is half. Plus we are feeding four of us. No wonder we can't save anything!

BlueBug45 · 17/07/2018 17:55

I saw that story and started laughing. I just couldn't bring myself to read it.

Even if she works in central London there is a lot she can do to save half her salary and live reasonable slightly further out.

musicposy · 17/07/2018 17:55

😂😂😂

PitterPatterOfBigFeet · 17/07/2018 17:56

Well without making any cuts to her current lifestyle no of course she can't save.

Thatsajokeright · 17/07/2018 17:56

Thank you Typhers. I failed to notice it wasn't a clicky link. Blush

I do appreciate that different areas are more expensive and it's all relative but the article is written as though £69,500 is a small amount. I clicked on it thinking it was a typo and it was meant to say 19,500!

And I wonder why I can’t save her bills are less than mine and I earn less than a third of what she does!!!!

Although I do pay £20 a month gym membership, but I don’t pay travel as I walk

NoFucksImAQueen · 17/07/2018 18:00

I thought the same thing

borlottibeans · 17/07/2018 18:05

GrinGrin

Thank you, that was a good laugh.

Round here you could buy outright for that (admittedly a shithole but she's talking about Bethnal Green so...) AND the "good" gym is £60 a month. But it's nice to be reminded of why I will never move back to London.

Cheby · 17/07/2018 18:08

Her pension contributions are woefully inadequate. If I were her on that salary I’d be addressing that for a start.

borlottibeans · 17/07/2018 18:09

Is this the next step along from all those articles about people who saved a 100k deposit by the time they were 22 and it turns out they've been living at home for free and most of it was an inheritance anyway?

Bluelady · 17/07/2018 18:14

Presumably she'll target her pension once she's saved her deposit. She's still young enough to sort out a decent pension pot.

Pittcuecothecookbook · 17/07/2018 18:17

I read this this morning, twice, as I couldn't believe it. Bizzare, isn't it. "I've had to really cut down on taxis..." ah, diddums.

That same series had a family on £30k (dad's wage, mum SAHP), saying we can't manage living in London on that but the dad had a £65 phone contract pm and they had a cleaner Confused

unadventuretime · 17/07/2018 18:22

Pisstaking aside, this articles me angry as it implies younger people are struggling to buy houses because they're all spunking money on taxis and gym memberships (& eating tenners 😉) when that's far from the case for many (most) people.

FromthePinkGlitterySide · 17/07/2018 18:27

This was actually a daily poke article that has now been reported as a serious one!

^^ THIS!!

My MIL is banging on and on about how we should have got on the property ladder by now and how we must just be pissing money away. It's like she thinks we want to live in a tiny rented house while she lords it over us in her huge house that she managed to get for less than half of what it's worth now by working the market at the right time. We have been saving for years, but both being self employed means we are going to need a whopping deposit. Looking at about £60-70k deposit for a small 2 bedroom house on our income.

SimonBridges · 17/07/2018 18:32

So the way to save money is to earn fuck loads in the first place.

StealthPolarBear · 17/07/2018 18:36

Never mind the eating tenners the food bill was separate from what sounds like fairly regular meals out. She must be eating 50s

Sparklesocks · 17/07/2018 18:39

She has £55k in savings already - makes me feel queasy!

DasPepe · 17/07/2018 18:42

Recently I was going to buy a red jacket, but then I thought: “I don’t need a red jacket, I’ve got a navy one and it’s fine.” S

Smile it would be funny if it wasn’t for all the people who don’t live like that

NewYearNewMe18 · 17/07/2018 18:51

£340 on food is only £10 a day - that will include her buying lunch

NewYearNewMe18 · 17/07/2018 18:52

Mind you £830 on rent and bills, can only be renting a room.
