To think my neighbour is a selfish twunt?

New neighbours. We have a communal hall. She asked me one day if she could leave her bike there as she was going back out. Sure says me, I'm not a twat, as long as I can clearly get passed it.
It was left a short while and she moved it. No issues, great!
Only been there for short periods since. Not a problem.

Only she's seemingly got a load of mates staying (meant to be her, her partner and two kids but non of them are here) and obviously be doesn't want the bikes cluttering up her flat hall so she is cluttering the communal hall.
It's small, my dc has ripped two pair of tights and got shit on her clothes physically climbing over them even though she has a disability.
My parent came earlier and usually let's themselves in as I can't hear the communal door (landlord took the bells when he replaced the door) and he couldn't actually get in which means my dc wouldn't have been able to get in if I hadn't of been home.
My dc have ripped two pairs of tights, I have hurt myself and almost ripped a new gig top.

They aren't approachable for reasons I don't want to go into.
Landlord will not give a shit despite the damage to the hall and carpets as he doesn't care. In fact three other neighbours (not me) made complaints about her, serious complaints and he didn't give a damn.
Aibu to bill them for any damaged clothes Angry

Can you go above the landlord?

Fumingbikes · 17/07/2018 15:35

Who would I go to Sneaky?

Sounds like the bicycles are blocking the exit so maybe contact the fire service to have a word with her/the landlord?

Bellyscreen · 17/07/2018 15:36

Is there any reason you can’t knock on her door and ask her to move them?

Bellyscreen · 17/07/2018 15:37

Ah sorry just seen they aren’t approachable.

Travis1 · 17/07/2018 15:37

Move the bikes outside? Or right up against her door?

It definitely sounds like a fire hazard so I'd contact the local Fire Station and ask them about an inspection.

Bellyscreen · 17/07/2018 15:38

I’m half tempted to say just move the bikes, but I’m guessing you don’t want to cause conflict?

Fumingbikes · 17/07/2018 15:38

Yes Belly there is. I don't want to go into masses of details but it isn't a good idea.

SidTheSquirrel · 17/07/2018 15:40

Raise it with local fire warden as a health and safety issue. You can’t exit safely In the Event of a fire due to the bikes obstruction.

Fumingbikes · 17/07/2018 15:40

Fire service is a good idea thank you.
I couldn't move the bikes outside her door. I have some disabilities and couldn't physically get them up the stairs to her flat.

Moving them outside would risk them being stolen, we have no garden and no lock and they are expensive bikes.

Fumingbikes · 17/07/2018 15:42

Sorry Belly xpost. My post was replying to your earlier one about reasons I couldn't go round and speak to her.

OP posts:
Rocinante1 · 17/07/2018 15:43

So what if they get stolen? You can't get in and out. Just move them outside. No one can prove you moved them.

Rocinante1 · 17/07/2018 15:44

Or put a note on the bikes saying that if they aren't removed then you will be putting them outside as you are being injured whilst climbing past them.

Cath2907 · 17/07/2018 15:49

Why do you care if they get stolen? She shouldn't block your doorway - chuck them outside. If she asks claim ignorance "what bikes????"

BitOutOfPractice · 17/07/2018 15:50

She is breaching every fire regulation in the book:

PitterPatterOfBigFeet · 17/07/2018 15:53

Agree could you leave note on bikes. I would say "I'm not sure whose bikes these are (even if you actually do know) but since they're in breach of fire safety regulations and are blocking access to my home if they are not removed by X date I'll assume they're abandoned and remove them from the communal space"

BoomBoomsCousin · 17/07/2018 15:55

How many flats in your block OP? It seems a bit foolish of them to leave bikes in a position in which they could so easily get damaged by opening doors and people clambering over.

agedknees · 17/07/2018 15:55

Fire service definitely. Yanbu. Some people are so selfless.

CoolCarrie · 17/07/2018 16:00

My dm had the same problem, and the fire service did nothing, but it’s definitely worth a try as it might be different in your area.

GREATAUNT1 · 17/07/2018 16:01

If they’re unapproachable do you think they’ll pay for damaged clothes?
You could always remove the wheels Halo

MycatsaPirate · 17/07/2018 16:02

Local council or fire safety person is the best bet. I used to live in a flat with communal space and you couldn't leave anything on the stairwell or outside your door at all.

Tanith · 17/07/2018 16:02

If they’re not approachable, I don’t see how you plan to bill them for damaged clothes!

Agree it’s a fire hazard, though, so your best bet is the fire service.

Fumingbikes · 17/07/2018 16:06

Greataunt and Tanith I don't know I'm just massively pissed off.
Just two flats in our section Boom.

OP posts:
tenterden · 17/07/2018 16:08

Yeah just pop them outside. They won't do it again.

WhoWants2Know · 17/07/2018 16:09

Damn shame if someone left the entrance door open and those expensive bikes were stolen...
