So, I think this is the first post I have created here but I am a long time lurker and occasional poster.

My kids and I saw a couple card games on Amazon we liked last week that we liked. I had spent way too much money while in our two week camping trip due to unforeseen circumstances so I decided to wait to get them. I saw due to a thread here about Prime Day. I go to look and see that one of the games price has changed from $31.99 to $39.99. This has been since Thursday last week and now it’s midday Monday.

It is part of the Prime Day Sale. So it’s now 30% off... So if it was at the original price it would be $22.39. At its new price it’s $27.99. Still a “sale” but not as good as they are trying to show.

I think it’s slimy as hell and wrong business practice. What do you think?

I talked to Amazon, their response is that prices fluctuate all of the time and they don’t control it. I agree with that, but usually on lower priced items by $0.25 - $1.00 not $8. That this is bad business practice to raise a price that drastically before a sale and I believe not legal.

What else has been raised that much so the “sale” isn’t actually a sale??? I believe in our (Canadian) stores it is illegal to do this kind of BS.

That’s pretty standard practice, surely. Same as bank holiday sales at furniture stores, the prices always go up before they come down so they can claim bigger % savings. Everyone knows that don’t they?

I’m happy with amazon prime day cos I got the echo show I’ve been after half price Grin

I agree with you. I'm from the UK and my experience has not been quite like yours but I'm noticing odd bits.

A few months ago I bough a hoover in the sale, I originally wanted a bit longer to think about it but it was showing that the deal was ending in 45mins so I bought it.
The deal ended, the next day rolled around and the price was still the low sale price, and the week after too! It was really annoying as it felt like a sort of pressure technique.
Also lots of deals aren't as good as they're made out its a bit hard to explain but It will for instance show 50% off however as a prime member you could already get the item cheaper so it's off the "original price" not the price you could buy it from Amazon from e.g. Rimmel foundation shows RRP 12.99 however most of you can buy it on prime for 8.99 and now 5.69 in the sale yet they're advertising over half price off. It's a good deal don't get me wrong but it's not exactly accurate if you know what you're looking at.

There is some genuine deals but you have to sift through it and it feels like a lot of work.

I had my eye on a bag of 150ish dishwasher tablets. That's about £20 worth at supermarket prices. Had to laugh when the deal went live.

I did get a laundry hamper I'd been after for a very good price, though. Actually forgot it was prime day, when I searched for it.

You can look at the prices of Amazing n items over a period of time on a website called CamelCamelCamel

If you use it would can see if you are getting a bargain or not.

Amazon not amazing

Imstickingwiththisone · 16/07/2018 23:08

I noticed prime generally isn't great when it's other sellers on Amazon. Same item for sale with same seller is £10 with 3-5 day delivery or £15 for free next day delivery on prime. Delivery isnt free if it's a fiver more.

That was with other sellers though tbf.
