Pissy ebay furniture

Stoveding · 16/07/2018 19:59

Literally. I have just spend £250 on some furniture on eBay and collected it today.

The flat smelled of wee, and the furniture was a bit sticky, but I didn't connect the two and thought I could give it a wipe and it would be fine.

Anyway, got home and realised every piece of furniture is covered in splashes of dried up, sticky urine. I have a urine detector light (from pets at home), shined it, and there it all is.

I feel sick. Paid by paypal, but I collected in person. Can I get a refund do you think? I drove over an hour to collect it each way, I'm super pissed off and don't want to have to drive to return it.

Mailed the seller, I'm waiting to see what she says first.

:(

?!!! What is the furniture?

Omzlas · 16/07/2018 20:04

That's beyond disgusting

Keep any and all contact via eBay message and contact PayPal as item wasn't as described

Also - take photos so you have evidence

I'm off to have a shower, that's made me feel icky

Stoveding · 16/07/2018 20:09

Its a sideboard and a desk with shelf units.

That's absolutely grim. Does she keep pets (cats and or dogs)?
Hope you get a satisfactory solution.

Stoveding · 16/07/2018 20:11

It was an old person's flat. There were also dogs hairs on it....

GreenMeerkat · 16/07/2018 20:12

Guessing she has a cat that sprays. Grim!!

Stoveding · 16/07/2018 20:13

Sheesh, will I get a refund do you think?

marmiteloversunite · 16/07/2018 20:15

Did it say anything about being a pet free home or excellent condition in the blurb?

Sleepyslops · 16/07/2018 20:16

I think you might struggle as you had the chance to say no when you went to pick it up.

Stoveding · 16/07/2018 20:22

It says it easy to wipe clean and has a few minor scratches.

I've spent 3 hours cleaning it, but it still stinks, and the light is showing up loads of urine.

Was going to suggest if she's elderly - possibility of some degree of dementia?
However, capable of maintaining an Ebay account (unless someone else doing so on her behalf).

Stoveding · 16/07/2018 20:24

It was her mother's furniture. I was thinking dementia - it doesn't smell like cat wee which is a bit more sour.

Bleurgggh

I know its not ideal but you can buy spray (Amazon) to get rid of the smell of cats wee. If it'll get rid of cats wee smell it should help (in case you don't get anywhere with the refund)

Have spoken to ebay and they say I'm covered, so I should be getting a refund. And seller has to arrange collection. Phew.

Is the property being sold (elderly lady no longer living there)?
The daughter selling the furniture - did she appear quite "lucid" when you collected the items?
You may be able to argue that the goods were not fit for purpose. Also, the description is inaccurate, and/or misleading

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 16/07/2018 20:43

Just seen your update - glad you got a good outcome.

Stoveding · 16/07/2018 20:44

Thank you. Now I just want it out of my garage!

Update - seller has replied to me to say the yellow sticky splashes aren’t we, but her mum’s medicine (she names it).
It is certainly v stinky.
But where I’ve cleaned it off, there are slightly noticeable stained/ faded patches.
She’s offered a discount to avoid either of us having to transport it around the country again. Asked me to suggest a refund amount.
Wwyd - accept this and repaint furniture, or refuse and push for full refund?

Ebay seller here; OP, in answer to your question, it's entirely up to you. You are entitled to a full refund, and the inconvenience of transporting it back is not your problem. If you happy with a partial refund to keep the furniture, that's OK, but the seller cannot insist on this. So it really depends on whether you can refurbish it to your satisfaction or not. You hold the cards here, so most definitely your choice.

Stoveding · 17/07/2018 18:28

Thanks- I probably can refurbish ok a bit of a hassle but worth a shot.

I was thinking of asking for 50% refund. Does that sound ok?

OP posts:
Goodadvice1980 · 17/07/2018 18:49

That sounds so grim OP Sad

The seller is lucky you were an honest buyer. Paying by paypal and then collecting in person is a known scam used by some ebayers. You could have filled a non delivery of goods and won!

Personally, if it was me I’d make them collect it and get a full refund, with negative feedback on ebay to boot! The seller is a CF and shouldn’t get away with keeping any of your money.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 17/07/2018 19:16

Ask for 75% refund if you are happy to keep least you have some haggle room back down to 50%

She isn't going to resell piss soaked stained furniture is she unless that's another bizarre fetish some weirdos have like worn shoes 😂

MrMeSeeks · 17/07/2018 19:27

I'd ask for a full refund. I don't want pissy furniture.

Stoveding · 17/07/2018 19:30

Its not piss, i do believe her on that
