To go on sick again

Backstory... I've suffered with miscarriages in the past year and so far this year have had 2 weeks off work. 1 week self certified and 1 with a sick note from the Dr. They actually signed me off for 3 weeks but I felt guilty and came back into work. This was in April.

I've come down with an awful bug over the weekend. I'm not one to be off sick for a cold but I feel utterly crap. Nose running, throat on fire and absolutely sweating, achey and sick feeling.

I'm so concerned about having more time off but really feel I need a day in bed before I make myself worse (& infect everyone else).

My employers were really supportive at the time and told me I wouldn't lose any pay for going over the 'sick days allowance' (5 days a year).

As I self certified for a week after the miscarriage before I got the note from my Dr I did technically use up all my sick allowance so I'm concerned they'd now stop any pay if I were to be off again tomorrow for this.

Does anyone know if miscarriage would come under pregnancy related illness? It seems a silly question but I'm really concerned about it. I cannot afford to lose any money this month.

My manager isn't the most approachable hence why I'm asking here first if it would be unreasonable of me to expect pay!

it is pregnancy related, but that means that it wouldn't count in a disciplinary. If you only get 5 days sick pay then I would think that you have used them up.

Sorry I meant to add, our policy states 5 days sick allowance or more at Management's discretion which is why I'm wondering if it would be reasonable of me to expect them not to give me a hard time for having used the allowance already given the circumstances.

I know it's not their problem technically :(

No advice, but I'd stay off with a bug like that...you'll get better with rest.

I'm so glad I don't work in a company with 'allowable sick days'. We take time off when we are ill, come back when we are better, and it works great. Bugs aren't spread around the office, people work better, we support each other.

Thanks Wrenika

To be honest it isn't that my manager is horrible, he was very kind to me during all the crap this year. He's just a bit difficult to chat with or approach.

I'm a very anxious person (even more so at the moment) and I get really worried about situations like this looking like I'm 'taking the p*ss'. And as I say losing the money would really screw me over this month.

It is at management's discretion whether you still get pay after the allowance is up so I guess I'll just have to take the risk if I still feel like death tomorrow.

I'd hope given that it's not a normal situation they'd have a bit of compassion but who knows with big businesses!!
