She seems perfectly nice and likeable but that is one of the weirdest accents I have ever heard. (She was just being interviewed on This Morning). A sort of cross between Northern Irish and Texas. I couldn't understand her at times, she sounded like her mouth was full - did anyone else see it or heard it? Has she been living in Texas?

Bleurgh! what a sickening interview, two women trying to be beautiful and perfect, who watches these programmes?

@myheartgoesout

Then you stick someone like Kevin mcaleer into the mix and you confuse the fuck out of all and sundry Grin

She has a Derry accent with a bit of an American twang. She is married to an American and has been living in the USA for years, I think (owns a bar out there).

I love the Derry accent Grin

@Amalfimamma now that is closer to the way my people speak! Very funny! Grin

I can’t hear American, she’s always sounded like that.

Must just be me then. I love that accent, I’m just not used to hearing it and it sounds mixed with a Texas accent to me!

I went to Maghera the other week and couldn't understand wtf they were saying! And I'm from Tyrone Grin think I've lived in Belfast too long!

Nadine's accent is just pure Derry. With a hint of Strabane.

myheartgoesout · 17/07/2018 10:30

I think the accent is getting stronger at home - they seem prouder of their rural accent and odd sayings - I particularly notice it on facebook with my brother and his son, they type exactly as they speak.

The strabane accent is cat. I remember the first time I heard someone in strabane say "I'm starving " and I offered them something to eat 🤣

The first year out here I spoke in my normal accent, then I changed it as I was teaching esl and couldn't in a big broad culchie accent.

Now I have kids I've reverted back to speaking as I always had. (And have a 3 yo who often says " yer a big buckin eejit" to me lol
